Relaxed Marco McCullough ready for another domestic title assault following comeback KO

After loosening up in the ring, Marco McCullough [18(11)-4(3)] is confident he has the capability to eventually tighten his grip around major domestic titles.

The Belfast fighter returned to the ring for the first time since his British title reverse to Ryan Walsh with an impressive stoppage win over Josh Baillie on the Frampton Reborn undercard.

The Shankill man put his dangerous English opponent down with a chopping right that closed the show in the third round.

Prior to the fight the Belfast featherweight told Irish-boxing.com that tension and a subsequent tightness had hampered him in his two domestic title defeats and claims it has something he has worked on eradicating from his game in the most recent camp.

He revealed how watching stylist Anto Upton up close and personal has helped and believes that new more relaxed approach was the key to his eye-catching stoppage win on Saturday night at the SSE Odyssey Arena.

“I seem a lot more relaxed and you notice your shots are more powerful. I felt a bit tight in the first round, but was relaxed after that. I was sparring with Anthony Upton and he is one at the best at just moving and I learnt a lot from him,” McCullough explained minutes after his win.

McCullough was a staple of Frampton’s Cyclone undercards and has expressed a desire to follow suit with Frank Warren and MTK.

The new father, 28 this week, outlined how “I am just glad to get out to get back out again. I took the last couple of months out and I just want get back into things now.”

“I hope so [to win domestic titles] I don’t see why not. It might take a while but I think I can get a few wins and build myself back up and maybe get a shot next year.”
