Major star to link up with Frampton and McGuigan?

Shane McGuigan has got the boxing rumour mill churning with a cryptic tweet that suggests very big upcoming news. The trainer of IBF super bantam champ Carl Frampton revealed that there is a new camp member at his Battersea Gym – but the 27 year old is keeping the name under wraps.

Naturally, whispers are flying, and two huge names keep popping up. If hearsay is to be believed, the new fighter is one of two London stars – David Haye or George Groves.

Former two-weight World champ Haye is returning to the sport after a three and a half year absence. The heavyweight has provided punditry on ITV for Frampton’s previous two fights, and has been highly complementary of Shane McGuigan and his modern style of coaching.

Groves on the other hand has recently parted ways with another Irish coach, Clare’s Paddy Fitzpatrick, after a third unsuccessful World title challenge – and the Sauerland fighter is on the lookout for another trainer as he looks to rebuild.

With three press conferences this week for Frampton-Quigg, as well as Eddie Hearn recently revealing that there will be a non-Matchroom star added to the December 12th card in London, expect details McGuigan’s new boxer to emerge soon.
