Impressive Maguire promises a more polished performance next time out

Debutant David Maguire didn’t quite scream ‘you ain’t seen nothing yet’ after his first paid win over Moses Matovu in the National Stadium on February 15, but speaking to Irish-boxing.com after the bout the sentiment was implied.
The Celtic Gym cruiserweight took a tricky premier paid bout trading leather with the experienced Belfast based Ugandan at relatively short notice, but impressed en route to a points win.
Even more impressive was the fact it was the former Intermediate champions first competitive ring action in over four years as a result Maguire believes he can only get better.
The Dubliner claimed ring rust was somewhat an issue and he told what seems to be a sizeable and already loyal following they expect better from him next time out.
“I am delighted with the performance,” said Maguire. “I haven’t been in a competitive ring for over four years so there was an element of ring rust. It was a tough fight to take for a debut, Moses is experienced and has been in with some great fighters so I am delighted with the performance. I don’t know what is next we just got the debut out of the way, but next time I will be fitter and a lot sharper. People can expect more from me the next time.
