Magee set for Dodson defence

15 January 2009 – By Cormac Campbell

British super-middleweight champion Brian Magee looks set to go on the road for the first defence of his title.

Lisburn native Magee will face mandatory contender Tony Dodson on March 28 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

The Holy Trinity stylist won the title with an impressive stoppage victory over Scotsman Stevie McGuire in December. The bout is expected to be televised live on Setanta Sports.

Dodson previously challenged for the crown having been stopped by current WBC champion Carl Froch in three rounds.

Former IBO champion Magee was himself stopped by Froch in the 11th round of a thrilling contest.
