Macklin target Soliman to defend his world title against Jermain Taylor

MATTHEW Macklin target and IBF middleweight champion of the World Sam Soliman will put his title on the line against fellow veteran Jermain Taylor on October 4.

Three time world title challenger Macklin had hoped to challenge the Australian for strap and even indicated an offer was made for Soliman to come to Dublin and defend his title.

However the 40 year old as elected to defend against 35 year old former IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor.

Taylor is a shock opponent, but is ranked 15 in the IBF rankings so qualifies as a World title challenger.

Taylor hasn’t faced a relevant fighter since 2009 the year he was beaten by Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham in the Super Six.

With Soliman no longer an option for 2014 and Andy Lee hoping to secure December clash with Miguel Cotto Martin Murray is next on the hit list Eddie Hearn recently sounded off.
