VIP Lynn Harvey delighted to show off new style

It was a new Lynn Harvey [2(2)-1(0)] last night.

The Dubliner made her return from a tough loss on the MHD Promotions ‘Inquisition’ dinner show, and quickly overwhelmed her unfortunate opponent.

‘Mini’ Agnes Draxler was never expected to pose much of a challenge, and indeed she didn’t, but the tiny Hungarian did offer the opportunity to get back to winning ways and for the first time implement her new game plan.

In the wake of her defeat to Mary Romero in November, the Kilbarack 35 year old has moved trainers and is now cornered by Tommy McCormack. While the fight last night may have only lasted 37 seconds, the changes made under McCormack are apparent.

Harvey spoke to Irish-Boxing.com following her demolition job and explained that “the main thing that I’ve been learning to do is to throw more punches, more volume, rather than relying on a strong, stiff jab, and that’s what I did”.

“Obviously it’s a work in progress, but I wanted to throw a lot of punches and I think I did that. I’d say that’s what got her, I was coming from all different angles.I’m happy that I didn’t just come in like I used to with the strong jab.”

“Luckily she came forward, which is what I like, I don’t like chasing them around. She came forward and she walked right into it.”

Enjoying her new surroundings, Harvey described how “I’m treated like an absolute VIP there, everyone looks after me, everyone makes sure I’m alright all the time. Not just Tommy, the rest of the team as well. They all make sure that I’m comfortable, that I’m happy, that everything’s alright. Honestly couldn’t ask for better people to look after me and that’s the truth.”

In addition to moving coach, Harvey will also move weight and plans to drop weight to light flyweight (108lbs). This began last night with a fight at 110lbs and ‘The Hunter’ will hit the weight for her second fight of the month on the 25th in Dublin on the Red Corner Promotions ‘Unfinished Business’ card

Havey is feeling the benefits of the move and she outlined how “50kg was grand, not a bother to make. 49kg wont be either. I walk around at 51kg, there’s no point in fighting at 51kg for the sake of not being strict in the last week or so. 49kg will definitely suit me.”

“Back training on Monday, no breaks, that’s the way I like it.”
