Returning Lynn Harvey in line for giant German fight

Lynn Harvey [4(3)-1(0)] is in the frame for a massive fight in the very near future

‘The Hunter’ has not fought in well over a year but is close to agreeing a big away fight.

Irish-Boxing.com understands the Kilbarrack native will take on top German light flyweight Sarah Bormann [6(5)-0] on Saturday December 8th in Übach-Palenberg on the Dutch border.

Harvey will have to go to her opponent’s backyard for what will be a ten-round fight with the minor Global Boxing Union and Women’s International Boxing Federation titles both on the line.

While unbeaten, ‘Babyface’ Bormann does not look to be an insurmountable prospect and Harvey will be confident she can upset the applecart against Europe’s, according to BoxRec, #2 light fly.

A former top amateur, the German holds a win over reigning Irish amateur flyweight champ Ceire Smith, defeating the Cavan fighter back in 2014. Bormann also won European Union bronze in 2011 – although had received a bye straight into the semi-finals.

The Hesse puncher turned pro less than a year ago, racking up quick wins at flyweight against low-level opposition before graduating to title fights.

Fighting ultradurable veteran Claudia Ferenczi in May, Bormann scored a notable seventh round stoppage, becoming just the fourth woman to stop the Slovak in almost 100 fights.

Moving down to 108lbs, Bormann outpointed Ukrainian Oksana Romanova, being brought the distance by the 46-year-old but winning wide on the cards.

Harvey herself has just four wins to her name and has yet to defeat a named opponent but she will feel she goes into a surprise big fight on a relatively level playing field considering her opponent’s record in the pros.

It marks a massive turnaround for the entertaining and powerful Dub.

A frustrated Harvey called it a day in 2017 only to announce a comeback in the Summer of 2018. The comeback has been delayed significantly after a proposed July fight fell through the week before, before a bout on the ‘Rise Again’ card earlier this month was cancelled on the morning of the show.

Harvey is set to return to the ring on November 24th on the Boxing Ireland and Tony Davitt ‘Celtic Clash 7’ card at Goo Counsel GAA Club and will use this outing as a warm-up for her Br but has been handed a massive opportunity in Germany.

The fight has yet to be officially announced but Irish-Boxing.com believe it should be signed, sealed, and delivered during the coming week.

Harvey’s manager Jay Byrne wouldn’t confirm the clash was a go but did admit talks were in place when approached by the site.

“I can’t confirm anything other than talks are at an advanced stage with regard to Lynn and a big fight.”
