The Hunter Harvey is tracking European title tilt

Lynn Harvey has a Euro vision.

The Hunter has caught the scent of the famous EBU blue belt and hopes to fight for the strap before the year is out.

The entertaining Kilbarrack native’s team has a European plan in place and it seems as if they are targeting a tilt on the undercard of the mooted Katie Taylor homecoming later in the year.

Speaking after her most recent win her coach Tommy McCormack revealed that “there’s a path toward the European title there now and we will work towards that. The reality of it is, because of the way women’s boxing is, Lynn’s record already means we are getting calls to fight some decent names abroad.”

“The majority have been at bigger weights so we knocked them back and we have our own path too follow and that leads to the European title. “

Indeed, although not many knew before hand Ivanka Ivanova was chosen for Harvey to fight last Saturday with the European title in mind.

The Bulgarian brought Sandy Coget, who has fought for the minimumweight title and soon challenges for the flyweight version of the strap, the distance and was a litmus test of sorts for the First Dates star.

“Coget is fighting for European title and this girl brought her the distance, so this was to just a final test to see in Lynn was at that standard. She proved she was,” McCormack added.

Harvey is delighted to be on the road to the EBU title, although she has aspirations beyond continental success and would like to have two more fights before she gets her shot.

“I would like two more fights before that, but I am excited. The European title is only a stepping stone for me. I want World, but we will talk about that next year,” Harvey told Irish-Boxing.com before reflecting on career win number four.

“She was strong, stronger than I thought, definitely. I got hit with more shots than I should have. I was landed jabs, but I could have landed it without being caught if I just slipped a little.”

“I will work on that. I landed some upper cuts which is a shot I don’t usually throw and not one we really worked on, but I could see it was there and it came to me. I was delighted I landed them and I seen that was there. I am happy with myself and my performance.”

Harvey claimed the win via stoppage, but some in the watching crowd were disappointed with the timing of the refs decision to step in. However, ‘The Hunter’ claims it was only a matter of time.

“I could feel her going.A few seconds before the stoppage I could feel her whimpering and waning a bit. I thought the stoppage was coming. She was taking shots in the first, but I could feel the difference in the second, I know I would have gotten her out of there in the third or the fourth at the very latest.”
