Lynn Harvey offers glimpse of improvements following comeback win

Lynn Harvey‘s comeback fight lasted just 82 seconds but the Kilbarrack light flyweight was happy with what she showed in the ‘Celtic Clash 7’ show opener.

‘The Hunter’ had not fought in 18 months – retiring last summer then reversing this decision earlier this year before seeing a comeback fight scrapped at short notice last month.

Harvey eventually made her ring return in Drimnagh on Saturday night and destroyed Kitti Kolompar in less than a round.

The Hungarian was stopped standing as Harvey moved to [5(4)-1(0)] but the Dubliner was more concerned with the improvements she exhibited.

Her first fight under Steven O’Rourke and Reg Byrne, the 37-year-old was more elusive than previously, weaving into range and landing heavy shots that eventually forced a finish

“I thought people were saying how durable she was?” joked Harvey to Irish-Boxing.com afterwards.

“I’m a little bit disappointed she wasn’t a bit tougher but I’m glad because I did some nice things.”

“I did some slip-right hands, which I haven’t done before but I have been doing in sparring and I’m just delighted with the way they landed.”

“I was moving my head better, I think I was keeping my right hand up, that’s something I wasn’t doing before.”

“Move my head more, keep my hands up, and slip right hands – that’s improvement, I’m happy with that.”

“I’d like to see the videos, to see if I was as neat as I felt I was being.”

The Northsider was happy to be back to winning ways as she chases titles in the new year and admits that the build-up to this fight has been quite tortuous.

Harvey noted how “I’m delighted now that that’s over and done with, the first one.”

“I feel like I’ve been in camp for months and months and months. That didn’t feel like one camp, it felt like I’ve been in ‘camp’ since I came back [from retirement], it was a long time,” she added before revealing that she was nervous going into the six-rounder.

“I don’t usually get nerves before a fight and in this one I was – it must be the length of time out of the ring, it must have been that, I wouldn’t normally be that nervous. ”

“I had a very busy week, I had a bit of shit going on so I wasn’t completely relaxed mentally going in, I was probably a little bit anxious in my own life.”

“I’ve said it before, millions of times, I don’t worry about ‘Fight Lynn’, she’s not the same as ‘Regular Lynn’, she handles it.”

Addressing the what’s next question, Harvey, having seen a potential fight in Germany next month fall through, intends to step away for the rest of the year before a big 2019.

“I’m going away with my son in a few weeks so I’m looking forward to that,” she said. “We’re going to New York, I can’t wait, it’s his dream to go there.”
