Low Blows: Stevie McKenna

Our weekly segment, Low Blows, sees Irish boxers take aim at their team and gym mates.

This week it is the turn of Monaghan’s Stevie McKenna, the reigning Elite light flyweight champ – who is now targetting the Elite bantamweight crown.

At 19 years of age, McKenna is the youngest boxer to take the challenge thus far, but the Old School BC man is well able to dish out a few digs.

Q: Hardest Trainer?
A: That would have to be Brett McGinty. He gives it 100% every session, Steven Donnelly and Mick Conlan are also very hard trainers.

Q: Biggest Moaner?
A: James McGivern. Try spending time with him in training camps when he is making weight, he would moan about anything.

Q: Funniest?
A: Sean McComb is one of the funniest people I have ever met. He always has all the team in stitches. Paddy Barnes also should be a comedian, he’s that funny.

Q: Biggest Ladies Man?
A: Conor Wallace is always chasing all the young girls.

Q: Most Intelligent?
A: Darren O’Neill, he’s the brains of the team.

Q: Least Intelligent?
A: Kieran Molloy, he;s that stupid he thinks he’s smart.

Q: Hardest Puncher?
A: Mick Conlan hits very hard for his weight, so does Paddy Barnes – he likes to close his eyes and swing like hell in sparring!

Q: Most Naturally Talented?
A: Joe Ward and Michael Nevin both of them were born to box.

Q: Cheapest?
A: Ray Moylette still owes me €30 from a game of cards from last year. He wouldn’t spend Christmas.

Q: Worst dancer?
A: I didn’t see it, but a few of the lads at the European Youths last year said they seen Michael Nevin shadowboxing and feinting on the dancefloor!

Q: Worst Dress Sense?
A: TJ Waite dresses like a skater boy.

Q: Biggest Messer?
A: You have to watch your back when you’re around Lewis Crocker, you never know what he is going to do.

Low Blows will continue next Wednesday before taking a one week break (Wednesday December 28th) over the Christmas.
