Little Men will put on a big show stealing performance says Conlan

A thrilling show stealer- that’s what Jamie Conlan thinks his clash with Anthony Nelson will be in the Copper Box on Saturday night.

‘The Mexican’ fights the South Shields 30 year old for the vacant super flyweight Commonwealth title on a card that includes a test for heavyweight Hughie Fury as well as a mouthwatering British featherweight title clash between fellow Belfast puncher James Tennyson and Ryan Walsh.

However, the 29 year old World title hopeful, who has fellow Frank Warren star Paul Butler in his sights, believes his clash with his fellow undefeated super fly will be fight of the night.

“I can’t wait for it,” said the 29-year-old. “I think our styles will make for a thrilling fight.

“I’m really excited for it and I think the little men will steal the show.”

Unlike most fighters Conlan never tries to sell the ‘I didn’t watch him line’. it’s not known how the fighter from the boxing family did at school, but he certainly does his homework when it comes to boxing.

Team Nelson feel the popular Belfast fighter is overlooking their man, but Conlan claims he studied Saturday’s foe and has been impressed.

“Anthony is a tough man and has a great engine,” he said. “I’ve studied him and I rate him.

“How good? I’m not sure now but I kind of know within the first 30 seconds or certainly within the first round how good an opponent is.

“I’m certainly looking forward to the fight and trying to win a prestigious belt.”
It is the biggest of his career, as it is for Nelson too.
