Lee Selby: I want the winner of Frampton-Santa Cruz next

IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby is determined to face the winner of Leo Santa Cruz v Carl Frampton later this year in a massive unification bout/

Belfast’s Frampton challenges for El Terremoto’s WBA featherweight belt on July 30th at the Barclays Centre in New York, and has the carrot of a unification clash on more familiar shores should he win.

Welshman Selby told Sky Sports that “it’s the fight I want. I just want the winner between the pair of them and if Frampton wins then it’ll be him I want to face.”

Indeed such is the Welsh Mayweather’s genuine interest in a clash, he admits that “I probably won’t fight again before I hopefully fight the winner of that.”

“I’ll probably only fight again once this year. I just want to be in the big fights and that’s the biggest fight out there at the moment so I’d rather wait for that.”

While the featherweight division is currently packed full of talent, it is the winner of the Frampton-Santa Cruz clash that Selby wants most, over the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko, and the Barry man explains that “I just want the winner of Santa Cruz v Frampton because they are bigger names. ”

A domestic dust-up with The Jackal also appears to be Selby’s preference as he questiongs the validity of Santa Cruz’s claims that he will travel to Britain, reasoning that “I doubt Santa Cruz would come to Britain. He’s saying it but I wouldn’t have thought so. I would rather have it here but I just can’t see him travelling for the fight.”

Selby won the IBF belt last May from Evgeny Gradovich and has since defended it against Fernando Montiel and Eric Hunter.
