Andy Lee couldn’t extend his impressive Madison Square Garden knockout run on Saturday, but did manage a 35th career win on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs eagerly anticipated clash.
The Limerick middleweight registered an unanimous 80-72, 78-74, 79-73 points win over Alabama middleweight KeAndrae Leatherwood.
The former WBO World champion was hoping to make if three straight Garden stoppages from his fourth visit to the venue, but apart from when he backed the American to the ropes in round 6 never looked like making it an early night.
Indeed, the clash was cagey for the most part, but with Lee producing the cleaner work throughout and managed to secure a relatively routine win in what was his first fight in 15 months.
Lee, whose record improves to 35(24)-3(2)-1, will now look to target a big fight as he looks to return to World level.
