Korobov: Lee is too slow to beat me

MATTY Korobov claims Andy Lee is too ‘slow’ to beat him.

The former amateur standout faces a fighter Billy Walsh believes was one of Ireland’s greatest ever amateur’s in Nevad on December 13 for the right to be called WBO middleweight champion of the World.

Some are suggesting the Russian’s tactful and amateur approach to ring action makes him a more suited to the Limerick man than the last fighter he fought for World honours, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

However, Korobov, who has been name dropping Gennady Golovkin throughout the build up,  disagrees and believes his footwork and timing will prove too much for a fighter he labels slow.

“Lee has a good jab, he doesn’t slug with you, just like a world class amateur and he is quite lank,” the undefeated fighter told BoxingScene.

“But he is also quite slow, this can be a decisive factor in my favour. I can tag him because of my superior footwork and good punch. But I am aiming for a lengthy fight not a knockout.”
