Kid Galahad wants to take the Win out of Windsor for Carl Frampton

Kid Galahad [24(15)-0] would love to come spoil the party and turn Carl Frampton [25(14)-1(0)] into a loser at Windsor Park.

‘The Jackal’ brings stadium boxing back to Ireland on August 18th and realises a long-held ambition by fighting at the home of Northern Irish football and putting the icing on the cake of a brilliant summer of boxing in Belfast.

However, in recent weeks concern over potential opponents for the two-weight world champion have arisen. None of the four major world title holders are available for the date and there are have been suggestions a foe worthy of helping the massive ticket seller sell out a stadium will prove hard to find.

Indeed, the 31-year-old has himself called for a ‘big name’ to be confirmed soon.

The unbeaten former British, Commonwealth, and European super bantamweight champion from Sheffield believes he is the dream name in terms of high-profile opponent and is confident he would be a nightmare for Frampton in the ring on what is a dream night for the BT Sport star.

The skilful Galahad, who would certainly sell the fight and add a panto villain element to the build up, told Irish-Boxing.com he is ready to come over and ruin the occasion.

“Of course,” Galahad told Irish-boxing.com when asked whether he would be interested in an August 18th fight with Frampton.

“The question is whether Carlos would be willing to have me there to spoil his party as I would come and take the win out of Windsor.”

At this stage, most are predicting the Belfast fan favourite will face a ranked WBO fighter in an WBO interim title defence.

Considering the world title landscape at present, such a bout would be acceptable and such a match up understandable but there is a desire around Belfast for a name known to the wider public and Scott Quigg and Galahad have both been mooted by fans.

Barry Awad, who was christened Kid Galahad by Irish boxing legend Brendan Ingle, suggests not only would he bring that named recognition, but would also give Frampton ‘a proper fight’ and thus those in the stadium and watching on BT Sport an entertaining clash.

Galahad, ranked #14 by the body, believes he is the best option, stating “one hundred percent, I would be far better proposition [than any of the WBO top 15].”

“The Irish fans are some of the most passionate and most knowledgeable in boxing. They will produce a special atmosphere so they deserve to witness a special night and a real fight. That’s what I would give Frampton – a proper fight.”

While the 28-year-old, who last fought in March of this year, is adamant he would take the fight but he suggests Frampton doesn’t hold the same attitude.

“I am confident I’ve got his number and I think deep down he knows it too. That’s why he doesn’t really fancy it. He’s already had one Barry unsettle his career, he doesn’t want this Barry to bring down the curtain on it,” he added before stressing he has options.

“If Carlos fancies it, tell him to give me a call. Let’s see if he is as vocal over the phone as he is in his tweets. If not, then I have a great management team who will work away and allow me to focus on doing what I do best – grinding away in that gym.”

“I am ranked at #3 with the IBF and #4 with the WBC so we are closing in on the big fights now and no doubt we will have some fight news for you soon.”
