Kerry teenager wins European bronze with stunning 8-second knockout

Sean Walsh left nothing to chance in his opening bout of the European Schoolboys Championships in Romania.

The Trojan 72kg fighter, the reigning Irish champion, had been handed a bye to the quarter finals of the U14s tournament in Valcea and took on Croatian Alam Kudic in his medal fight.

One of 17 Irish in Last Eight action yesterday, Ballybunion boxer Walsh secured one of ten bronze medals for the boys in green in absolutely stunning fashion, taking out his opponent in a matter of seconds.

Tudic stormed out to trade with Walsh and the Kerry teen duly obliged, landing shots with both hands and putting the Balkan fighter down after just 8 seconds.

The Croat would rise unsteadily, but the bout was waved off (after 19 seconds) handing Walsh the win, the bronze medal, and a place in Monday’s semi finals against England’s Kyle Parr.

Well done to Sean and all the other Irish boxers and coaches out in Romania and good luck on Monday!
