Irish Prospect of the Year Jamie Kavanagh is ready to rock in Manchester on April 19 after surviving being rocked in the early stages of another impressive victory in LA last week.

The Wild Card prospect was wobbled just seconds into his fifth paid outing, but came back strong to eventually win a landside decision over tough Mexican Ramon Flores. The Spanish speaking former World Youth silver medalist recovered well to claim every round in his first six rounder and is now ready to impress the large Irish contingent when he fights on the undercard of Paul McCloskey and Amir Khans WBA world title fight.

Every fight has been a stepping stone and I felt this fight was a great learning curve. It was good to get six rounds in. I can take a lot away from this fight. I spoke to Golden Boy and Freddie(Roach) after the fight and they were happy with my performance, especially how I adapted to his style, Kavanagh told Mirror Sport.

I didnt want too look beyond this fighter, but now I have him out of the way my eyes are set too Manchester. I am very excited to be fighting so close too home. It will be my European debut so I am looking forward to it. I am already anxious to get back into camp after my little weekend rest and prepare for it.

The Freddie Roach trained talent admitted to being shocked in the first, but was keen to take positives out of how he handled the big right. Kavangah is delighted that he showed enough composure to recover and believes the first round wobble will stand to him in future fights.

Taking that shot and how I came back will stand too me in the future. It was more of a shock than anything. I came out too relaxed. It is all learning curve for me. After that shot I took control straight away. I began using my boxing skills and won every round. Ok it was a big shot, but I took it, composed myself and came back strong to win. It was just one punch and I won the fight.
