Katie Taylor secures fight on massive Bellew Haye card

Katie Taylor [2(1)-0] will kick off her 2017 in two months time with a prominent undercard appearance on Sky Box Office.

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn this afternoon confirmed that the Bray super featherweight will feature on the undercard of the heavyweight grudge match between David Haye and WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew.

The card takes place at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday March 4th.

The fight date comes after the 30 year old was forced off the Gennady Golovkin v Danny Jacobs undercard at Madison Square Garden Arena on March 18th.

“It’s great to be on another big card in front of a huge crowd at an arena like The O2,” said Taylor. “I think people are really excited about the Haye-Bellew fight and the rivalry between those guys and as a boxer these are the kind of nights you want to be a part of. It’s a massive stage for me and I’m really looking forward to it.”

“I’ve been here in the US for the last few weeks in training camp for the fight and working hard. It’s the start of a very big year for me and I know there are big plans but I need to keep winning and keep performing so I’m not looking any further beyond March 4th.”

Taylor debuted back in November again Karina Kopinska at the Wembley Arena back in November, scoring a third round stoppage, before outpointing Viviane Obenauf over six on the Anthony Joshua v Eric Molina pay-per-view undercard in December.

An opponent for Taylor will be announced in the near future.

Also set to feature on the undercard is a light welterweight fight between veteran Liverpudlian Derry Matthews and outspoken Londoner Ohara Davies. Then there is a welterweight match-up between former British and Commonwealth champion Sam Eggington and former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi, as well as appearances for Craig Glover and Ted Cheeseman.

Taylor also looks set to fight on a third successive pay-per-view undercard on April 29th, with a slot on the Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko will at Wembley Stadium.
