Katie Taylor admits she is considering pro options

Katie Taylor is weighing up pro offers and is debating whether or not to pursue a second Olympic medal or a professional World title.

The fighter, considered by many as the greatest ever female boxer, suffered Olympic disappointment in Rio and saw her dream of registering back to back Olympic golds go up in smoke in August.

Since returning, Ireland’s most decorated fighter has been quiet about her future and the ‘what’s next’ speculation has been considerably less than this time four years ago.

However, last week Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed his desire to sign the Irish sporting legend and when speaking to Kevin Byrne of the Sun suggested contact had been made.

Taylor herself confirmed promotional contact late this week and has admitted she is debating whether or not to turn over.

She told The Irish Daily Star at the launch of the P&G Thank You Mum campaign that “I’m weighing up my options at the moment and speaking to a few promoters in the pro game.

“I love the Olympic Games as well so it is a hard decision for me to make.

“That is why I am taking the time to make the decision and I’m going try to make sure I make the right one.”

If Taylor did elect to change code and a promotional package was put together to keep her in Ireland she could become to finally fill the much talked about Bernard Dunne shaped hole that has been a Dublin obsession since the Irish Rover’s retirement eight years ago.

Indeed, Taylor would perhaps be big enough to inspire RTE back into play and bring in turn bring boxing back to the mainstream.
