“It’s all a bit up in the air at the moment” – Eddie Hearn gives Katie Taylor Homecoming Update

It’s not dead in the water yet – however a Katie Taylor homecoming in April remains unlikely.

It was reported yesterday that Taylor’s long-mooted Irish homecoming on April 14th had been ‘indefinitely shelved’, with the WBA lightweight champion instead being lined up for a support slot on the Matchroom USA bill at the Barclays Centre in New York on April 28th.

Promoter Eddie Hearn had stated last week that Taylor [8(4)-0] would fight in Dublin in April.

Today the Matchroom boss refused to rule out a show in Dublin in three month’s time, but admitted that the Bray boxer’s next fight may be in America, and was visibly excited at the prospect of a different to-be-confirmed card on April 14th.

Noting how “it’s all a bit up in the air at the moment,” Hearn told IFL TV that “we’ve got a show on April 14th which was due to be Katie Taylor.”

“We are looking at April 14th in Dublin. There’s an opportunity to fight on the Jacobs card on April 28th and there’s also a massive fight that we’re planning on April 14th as well which could go instead [of Taylor in Dublin].”

“We may stay in Dublin, we may go to America with that, but I’ve got another huge show that I’m planning for April 14th if we don’t go to Dublin.”

Indeed, showing his preference, Hearn suggested an alternative. for Taylor which would again put her homecoming on the long finger.

With Jacobs being in negotiations with Spike O’Sullivan, Hearn is keen on his April 28th Brooklyn card to be Irish-heavy – although it may be a different Irishman in the main event.

The Essex promoter outlined how “if Danny Jacobs fights Spike O’Sullivan, which I hoped would happen but it doesn’t look like Spike’s side want it – not Spike himself… it’s politics basically.”

“Possibly Andy Lee might get the opportunity against Danny Jacobs and, if that’s the case, I’d like to do Katie Taylor in a unification fight there [New York] and then do her for the undisputed title in Dublin in September.”
