Jono Carroll and Katie Taylor make weight at fiery Philly weigh-in

We have a St Patrick’s Weekend fight card.

Ireland’s Jono Carroll and Katie Taylor have both successfully weighed in this evening ahead of their world title fights tomorrow night.

The pair fight at the Liacouras Center, live on Sky Sports and DAZN, and needed to make championships weight here.

In the headline fight, Carroll [16(3)-0-1] challenges IBF super feather champ and home favourite Tevin Farmer [28(6)-4(2)-1] while Taylor [12(5)-0] provides chief support in her WBA-IBF-WBO lightweight unification versus Rose Volante [14(8)-0].

Carroll needed to come inside the 130lbs/59kg limit while Taylor, in the class above, had the upper target of 135lbs/61.2kg.

‘King Kong’ had noted that he struggled to make the weight for his fight with Guillaume Frenois but looked comfortable here, coming in at 129.2lbs/58.6kg and shouting at Farmer that ‘you look skinny, boy’.

The champion, having been late to the press conference yesterday where he showed up in gym gear, was said to be struggling to make the weight.

But make the weight he did, coming in at 129.7lbs/58.7kg.

Following clashes at both press conferences, the face-off was immediately nose-to-nose with both shouting each other down and needing to be restrained..

Minutes beforehand, Taylor comfortably made weight for her unification clash.

The Wicklow lightweight came in at 133.9lbs/60.7kg – the lightest she has ever been for a world title contest.

Volante was even lighter, tipping the scales at 133.2lbs/60.4kg.

The staredown between the pair was, as expected, short and cordial.

Also on the card is Mullingar’s Philly-based Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin [11(4)-0] who weighed-in at 132.8lbs (60.2kg) for his six rounder with Colombian Andres Figueroa [9(5)-3(3)] who came in at 133.5lbs (60.6kg).
