“I’m going to win it” – Jordan Moore targets Senior Elites following Intermediate and U22 titles

One of Ireland’s best-performing fighters at the European U22 Championships last year, Jordan Moore was just one win away from medaling.

Now up in weight, experience, and confidence, the Dubliner is returning to Romania next month with gold on his mind.

“I don’t want to go one better, I want to go three better and go for that gold,” Moore told Irish-Boxing.com following his National U22 bantamweight title win at the weekend.

“There’s a couple of them out there but I won’t worry about them at the moment, I just have to worry about myself and getting my game right let them do their own thing.”

The rangey Glasnevin fighter defeated Holy Family Drogheda’s Jordan Smith in the decider, adding to the U22 and Intermediate titles he won in 2017.

Now up at 56kg – having represented Ireland at the World Youths at 49kg just 15 months ago – Moore is rapidly expanding and becoming a more all-round fighter

The 19-year-old, highly-rated by Zaur Antia, explained that “since I stepped up in weight, I’m feeling a lot more comfortable. My workrate was there. I’m fitter than ever since stepping up in weight.”

“When I was at the lower weights I had to keep moving and moving and picking people off. I was able to get more involved which I enjoyed but I controlled the range and the distance. I had a couple of inches over him.”

“My strength was good, I felt strong on the weight and my endurance – I felt fitter than ever.”

While the Europeans in March remain a big target, Moore intends to enter the National Elite Senior Championships this month – and he isn’t looking at the tournament as merely an opportunity to build experience.

“I’m going to win it – I wouldn’t enter it if I didn’t think I was going to win it,” states the inner-city Dubliner.

“I have that for anything I enter, there’s no way I would be going into this if I thought I was going to be beat.”
