Jono Carroll v Declan Geraghty rematch OFF

The massive Frampton Reborn card in Belfast next week has been hit by a major withdrawal.

The highly anticipated rematch between Dublin super featherweights Jono Carroll and Declan Geraghty has been struck from the November 18th bill at the SSE Odyssey Arena.

Geraghty [15(4)-2(1)] has withdrawn from the IBF East/West Europe title fight due to a hand injury suffered during camp, with a specialist recommending the slick southpaw to pull out.

Geraghty described how “to say that I’m sick is an understatement. I’ve been waiting for this fight for a very long time.”

“It’s a highly anticipated rematch on the Frampton Reborn bill and in all of Ireland. I hope it will happen next year and I believe I’m going to win it in style.”

MTK Global, who manage both fighters, explained that “it is a pity that Declan has had to pull it as it was a fight everyone was looking forward to.”

“Declan is gutted to miss out on such a big fight on what is a special night for Irish boxing but he will be back.”

“We hope to have a quality opponent confirmed for Jono Carroll in the next day or two.”

Geraghty had been gunning for revenge having been beaten by Carroll [14(1)-0] in their first meeting back in November 2014 – an Irish Fight of the Year. This four rounder at the 3Arena saw Geraghty, who was up on the cards, being disqualified in the final round.

A bumper card still remains in Belfast, with Carl Frampton making his return against Horacio Garcia, Jamie Conlan challenging IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas, WBO bantamweight champion Zolani Tete defending his belt against fellow South African Siboniso Gonya, an English super middleweight title fight between Darryll Williams and Lennox Clarke, as well as appearances from Paddy Barnes, Gary Cully, Steven Ward, David Oliver Joyce, Tommy McCarthy, Marco McCullough, Lewis Crocker, and Liverpool heavyweight Alex Dickinson.
