Carroll ready to make smart steps toward Tevin Farmer fight

Jono Carroll [16(3)-0] will employ a smarter than usual seek and destroy tactic as he bids to secure a shot at the IBF super featherweight world title on Saturday night.

‘King Kong’ takes on Guillaume Frenois [46(12)-1(0)] on a Sky and DAZN broadcast show in Sheffield knowing victory will garauntee him a shot at the world title currently held by ‘The American Idol’ Tevin Farmer.

The 26-year-old goes into the clash as favourite with some predicting he will overwhelm the veteran French fighter.

However, while Carroll suggests he will employ the relentless style that has won him so many fans he is aware he will have to be smart in coming forward against a former European champion.

“There will be times I try and seek and destroy in order to get him out of there but I will be smart while I’m doing that,” Carroll explained.

Carroll’s opponent is nine years his senior and has been around the block, but the Spain based Dubliner doesn’t think youth will be an advantage going into the biggest fight of his career.

“Youth means nothing in the boxing world but experience does. I know I need to be smart with this guy and I’m not looking past him at all. He’s very experienced.

“If you look at when Floyd Mayweather fought Canelo, youth didn’t help there at all so I don’t want to rely on anything like that. I want to use my head in this fight and not come out broken up as usual,” he adds before claiming he is looking forward to fighting in the Steel City.

“I’ve never been to Sheffield but I know it has a great history of boxing so I’m sure the fans will be passionate. I’m looking forward to that atmosphere.”
