Jono Carroll to make big step up on Belfast card

Jono Carroll [13(1)-0] will fight for the first belt of his professional career on a big Befast fight night in June.

The Dunshaughlin super featherweight will box for the IBF European title on the Belfast BoxNation bill on Saturday June 17th against an undefeated English opponent.

25 year old Carroll will take on Liverpudlian Johnny Quigley [14(3)-0] in a battle of the southpaws at the Waterfront Hall over twelve rounds.

Quigley scored a career-best win over Ian Bailey in July 2014, but then found himself over the ring for over two years.

The pair share one common opponent, with 26 year old Quigley stopping Simas Volosinas in the fourth round of their clash in October, while ‘King Kong’ Carroll has outpointed the same opponent over four one month previously.

Since linking up with Mack The Knife Global, Carroll scored two quickfire win before an impressive win over Spanish title challenger Juan Luis Gonzalez in December. The Finglas boxer then took a short break from boxing for the birth of his first child and he has since relocated full time to the South of Spain.

A victory in seven weeks time would see the Prizefighter winner enter the IBF Top 15 (current champion Gervonta Davis).

Carroll joins Steven Ward, Lewis Crocker, Jamie Conlan, debutant David Oliver Joyce, and a lightweight scrap between Steve Ormond and Craig Evans on the Paddy Barnes-headlined bill, with more still to be announced.
