Jono Carroll calls for Scott Quigg clash

Jono Carroll [16(3)-1(0)-1] doesn’t believe Scott Quigg has earned the right to fight IBF world super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer and called for the British fighter to “fight me first.”

Quigg faced Belfast’s Carl Frampton in a super bantamweight unification back in 2016 and followed ‘The Jackal’ up to featherweight afterwards. He would then come in massively overweight for his challenge of WBO champ Oscar Valdez and the super featherweight division now looks to be his home.

The Bury will first will face Mexican Jayson Velez on April 26th but he has suggested a clash with IBF champ Farmer afterwards.

‘King Kong’ claims he needs two rebuilding fights before he returns to world title action following his gallant loss to Farmer last month and seems to think Quigg would be ideal.

The bearded southpaw laughed off talk of a possible bout between the man who inflicted his first defeat on him and the Freddie Roach-trained Englishman.

The recent world title challenger called for Quigg [35(26)-2(0)-2] to fight him first and promised to smash up the former Joe Gallagher-trained puncher.

“Scott Quigg would want to fight me first before he fights Tevin Farmer,” the talkative star told IFL TV.

“I’ll smash Scott Quigg up. I don’t know why he thinks he can call out Tevin Farmer. Scott Quigg hasn’t even done much recently. He hasn’t beaten a name recently.”

“He is doing great training over there with Freddie Roach, probably getting great spars and that, but Farmer is way too slick for Scott Quigg,” opined Carroll.

Unsurprisingly confident, Carroll believes he would beat his Matchroom stablemate.

The 26-year-old predicted that “I do a number on Scott Quigg.”

“Fight me first, son, how about that?”

Carroll proved he can mix it at a high level in Philadelphia last month, giving Farmer the toughest fight of his world title reign so far.

It all came about quite quickly for the Finglas-Dunshaughlin fighter who went from domestic level to a draw with recent European champion Guillaume Frenois and then in with the impressive Farmer.

Carroll wants to build and outlined how “I have to go back and have one or two rebuilding fights before I get that massive big fight again. I just want to be mixing with all these world champions because I feel like I am up to that level.”

“There are just one or two things I still need to learn obviously because we did one or two things wrong in that last fight, but I didn’t feel like I was out of my depth with Farmer, not one little bit, definitely not.”
