John Joe Nevin to return next month in title fight

John Joe Nevin [8(4)-0] will make his return to the ring next month – and the former amateur star will jump in against an unbeaten opponent in his first progessional title fight.

The 27 year old Mullingar super featherweight will headline a nine-fight show at the Fillmore venue in Philadelphia on Friday March 24th.

His opponent will be 23 year old Puerto Rican Luis Lebron  [7(3)-0-1] for an as-of-yet unconfirmed title.

The 2012 Olympic silver medallist’s most recent contest took placein the same city, at the SugarHouse Casino, last August, with Nevin outpointing Jesus Lule over six.

For this fight Nevin will make a step up in rounds which will grant him Irish title eligibility – and the Westmeath stylist is said to be keen on a domestic title clash in the near future.

Nevin has suffered a stop-start paid career since turning pro in the wake of his 2013 European gold medal, being restricted to just eight fights in three years due to a range of issues.

It is hoped that he may now finally be able to build some momentum, starting March 24th, and begin putting his undoubted talent to good use at the top level in the sport.
