John Joe Nevin makes winning return in Philly

John Joe Nevin made his return to the ring after nine months out last night.

The Philadelphia-based Westmeath super feather comfortably outpointed durable Florida journeyman Jesus Lule over six rounds.

The fight at the SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia gave Olympic silver medalist Nevin the chance to remove any ring rust that may have accumulated during his stint out – in which time he had a 4lb metal bar removed from his lower leg.

The clash was little more than target practice for Nevin who unloaded on his shelled-up opponent throughout, and the Mullingar Shuffler took the bout 60-54 on all three cards.

The wins sees the 27 year old improve his record to 8(4)-0 and he will now look to, finally, build some momentum and try fulfill some of his vast potential in the pro game.

Lule dropped to 8(1)-19(6)-1 with the loss.
