John Joe Nevin: Frampton will be too powerful for Cazares

John Joe Nevin is backing his former Irish team-mate Carl Frampton to do the business in his native Belfast on Friday night.

Unbeaten Frampton meets Mexican southpaw Hugo Fidel Cazares at a sold-out Odyssey Arena. The fight is the final eliminator for the WBC World super-bantamweight title.

Challenging for World titles is where Nevin plans to be in the not so distance future, but for now the London 2012 silver medallist is supporting Frampton.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for Carl. He’s in against an experienced opponent but he has the ability to do it. Carl is a fantastic boxer and he has the punching power and I believe that will make the difference, said Nevin, who is signed with GreenBlood and Berkeley Sports and Media.

“There will be a tremendous atmosphere in the Odyssey Arena and it promises to be a great night for Irish boxing.”

Looking back on his debut win over Puerto Rico’s Alberto Candelaria at the House of Blues in Boston on St Patrick’s Day, Nevin added that he was delighted to get off to a winning start.

“I beat a good opponent on the night. He came to fight and fair play to him. I was delighted with the win against a tough opponent. “I’m looking forward to my next fight now. It promises to be a very exciting year.”
