Joe Ward teams up with major American promoters and Hall of Fame coach

Joe Ward revealed a bit of an American Dream team will guide his career in Dublin today.

The former amateur standout of note announced he was turning over before the recent European Games.

Whilst it was confirmed Times Square Boxing would work with the Moate BC graduate, at the time it was unsure as to whom the 25-year-old would work with promotional-wise or training-wise.

Rumours last week suggested Hall of Fame coach Buddy McGirt would take the coaching reigns and those were confirmed as true in the Westbury on Tuesday – although long time amateur coach Jimmy Payne remains part of the set up.

Also confirmed on the Ward ticket today are promoters Lou DiBella and Ken Casey.

DiBellia Entertainment and Murphys Boxing will link up to promote the natural talent.

The team should provide good access to New York and Boston for the three-time European gold medal winner.

DiBella is certainly a well known figure in the game and has guided many a successful career.

He worked with Andy Lee and Matthew Macklin to varying degrees of success and currently promotes former James Tennyson and Jono Carroll foe Tevin Farmer as well as potential future Katie Taylor opponent Amanda Serrano.

Casey runs Murphys Boxing who have linked up with some of the top Celtic Warriors Gym fighters. Spike O’Sullivan and Niall Kennedy are both signed to the promotional outfit whilst they have worked closely with Ray Moylette, Craig O’Brien and even Larry Fryers over recent times.

In terms of new coach McGirt he too worked with Matthew Macklin for his St Patrick’s Day fight with Sergio Martinez, he is a American Boxing Writers’ Association Trainer of the Year award winner and world champion in his own right.

The New Yorker has also worked with the like of Arturo Gatti, Pauli Malignaggi and is currently training WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.
