Jay Carney “ready for anything” ahead of Feargal McCrory headline fight

Jay Carney [5(3)-1(0)-2] comes to Belfast on the back of a run of good form and no pressure on his shoulders.

The Liverpudlian super feather takes on Feargal McCrory in the headline fight on the inaugural Kieran Farrell Promotions Irish show at The Devenish Complex in West Belfast.

Carney is normally full of confidence anyway, but ‘Bam Bam’ is approaching the eight-round fight tomorrow night on the crest of a wave.

In his most recent fight, the Scouser upset local favourite Carl Chadwick on a Sky show in Hull, bludgeoning him into submission over four rounds.

It was cold, hard proof of his resurgence under Kieran Farrell, and Carney is looking to continue this tomorrow on the Finaghy Road.

Looking back on the Chadwick scalp, the 30 year old told Irish-Boxing.com how “I’m a confident guy anyway, I feel I was just proving what I already know, but yes it gives me a boost to win on a big show on the road too!”

“I’ll be honest, I’m really looking forward to coming to Belfast. I feel the Scouse and the Irish have a close connection.”

That said, being the away fighter has its benefits. Carney explained that “I wouldn’t say it gives me any more or less motivation, but definitely there’s less pressure on me, I’m the away boxer, he’s the home guy with the fans and the hype.”

Both Carney and McCrory [4(1)-0] have never gone past four rounds, and the English fighter feels he is suited to the longer format.

He outlined how “I feel I’m definitely suited to the longer rounds but I’m sure Feargal thinks that too of himself, we will find out who suits it best on Saturday!”

“Neither of us have gone past four rounds and I think that’s what makes this fight more interesting, we are both each other’s best opponents to date in the pro ranks.”

Carney is looking forward to this career-best opponent, and has been impressed from the little of what he has seen – and is hoping to give the fans entertaining spectacle.

“I haven’t seen too much of Feargal to be honest,” he admitted. “There is limited footage of him online.”

“From what I have seen, I know he is a sharp boxer, got a touch of class about him, aggressive style.”

“He looks the part to be fair, and that’s what I want, I’m here in this game to fight the best, to test myself at the highest level I can reach! I’m a real fighter.”

“Hopefully our styles gel well together to give the fans a great entertaining fight.”

“I’m ready for anything, and the best man will win on the night.”
