Tennyson falls short in bid for British title

Belfast’s James Tennyson lost out on his bid to become British Featherweight champion after champion Ryan Walsh stopped the 22 year old in the fifth round at the Copperbox Arena in London on Saturday night.

Tennyson looked relaxed in the opening exchanges and landed some good straight rights on his opponent, shots that seemed to earn Walsh’s respect.

Walsh however came out all guns blazing in the second and put the Belfast man down after landing with a couple of overhand rights.

As the fight progressed it ebbed and flowed and began to develop into a cracking clash with both landing well, but Walsh just shading the exchanges.

In the fifth however the night turned sour for Tennyson as he touched the canvas twice, first from an overhand right and then soon after as he looked to rescue the fight by throwing bombs, he was caught again to the body and went down.

The Irishman beat the count but the referee waved it off and Walsh retained his title.
