James Tennyson promises to grab Sky chance once again

James Tennyson [21(17)-2(2)] is ready to deliver in front of the Sky cameras once again against his toughest foe to date.

‘The Assassin’ has saved two of his best performances for when the British broadcaster came to Belfast last year stopping both Ryan Doyle and Darren Traynor in entertaining ranking belt bouts.

The 24-year-old, who picked up the WBA International title and the #4 ranking with the body in the process, is confident he can repeat the success and add the European super featherweight strap to his list of trinkets when he trades leather on the massive Bellew Haye II card on Sk Box Office.

The two-time Irish champion takes on champion Martin J Ward, who is making his first defence, for the European title on May 5th at the O2 in London and, although he has the utmost respect for Anthony Cacace’s former foe, he remains confident he can become the continental ring king.

“It great to be part of another momentous night of boxing on Sky Sports,” said Tennyson. “Big thanks to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing for delivering another big opportunity.”

“It feels strange to be taking on someone who you admire. Martin is a great champion, but I have a great chance to get my hands on that title, and I’m grabbing it and coming back across that Irish Sea with another belt.”

Matchroom’s Ward see’s the big punching Belfast fighter as a route to World level and obviously has his sights set on the MHD fighter’s juicy world ranking.

The outright British champion, who defeated Tennyson’s stablemate Ronnie Clark in his first defence, outlined how”I’ve gone the traditional route and I’m happy I’ve done that.”

“I’m proud to be European champion and I think it’s important to defend titles when you win them so this is a good start to 2018 for me after a brilliant year last year.

“I want to progress onto the World stage now. I’ve won everything there is to win and when I beat James, I want to start working towards getting to World-level. I leave the path down to the team but I believe I am ready now and I’ll prove that on May 5th.”
