James Tennyson and Paul Hyland could be one fight away from title opportunity

James Tennyson and Paul Hyland Jr could secure mandatory status for major titles with victory on the ‘Summer Brawl’ card set for the Europa Hotel on Saturday May 18th according to Mark Dunlop.

When the show was first announced their were suggestions from some quarters that the show was keep busy affair for the entire MHD stable, but the promoter suggests there is a lot on the line for his two Belfast lightweights in particular.

Indeed, both fighters could secure title shots with wins on the card according to the MHD boss.

Former Irish, Celtic, Commonwealth, and European champion and recent world title challenger Tennyson [23(19)-3(3)] could secure a shot at the lightweight continental king Francesco Patera.

If so, it would be a chance for ‘The Assassin’ to become Ireland’s first ever two-weight European champion.

Similarly Hyland [20(7)-1(1)] can look to secure a title shot with victory on the May dinner show.

‘Hylo’ may be mandated to fight for the now vacant British title he fought Lewis Ritson for last year.

The British lightweight title is currently vacant, with Commonwealth champion Joe Cordina looking to add it to his collection this weekend when he takes on Andy Townend in London

“They will all be in exciting fights,” promised Dunlop.

“Tennyson is homing in on the European lightweight title and Hylo is knocking on the door for the British title so their contests could see both of them in mandatory positions for those titles again.”

Also confirmed for the show are the returning Tommy McCarthy, Cathy McAleer, Irish lightweight champion Feargal McCrory and BUI Celtic light welterweight title holder Victor Rabei.

Dunlop suggests they will also be in meaningful and thus exciting fights.

“New Irish champion Feargal McCrory and the popular Cathy McAleer are also looking to progress onto the bigger stage with victories that can only push them in that direction. Rabei is on the home straight for a shot at the Irish title and he ventures up to the North for the first time.”

“I am blessed to have such an outstanding line up on show on May 18th, the Europa shows are very popular, like home from home for my team. It will be another quality night.”
