IT’S Official: Frampton v Martinez II September 6 for the IBF World title

IT’S official Carl Frampton will challenge old foe Kiko Martinez for the IBF super bantamweight title of the World in Belfast on September 6.

Rumours had been circulating for a number of weeks, that the duo had agreed to a repeat of the European title fight. Indeed Kiko Martinez had told Spanish press he was ready to avenge the defeat inflicted on him by ‘Jackal’ in Belfast on September 6.

This morning rumours upgraded to truth as Cyclone Promotions confirmed Frampton will fight a puncher dubbed ‘Mini Tyson’ by Irish fight fans after he had Bernard Dunne gone in 86 seconds, for the IBF world title.

Frampton already holds a win over the Spanish puncher, indeed he is the only fighter to stop the Maravila boxer. However, since that reverse Martinez has won the World title via stoppage and defended it with two more stoppage wins.

The pair look set to trade leather in an out door venue as Frampton brings the biggest fight to Ireland since Steve Collins beat Chris Eubank back in 1995.
