“It suits me” – Alfredo Meli targets Ireland’s Last Man Standing

Alfredo Meli [14(3)-0-1] will take any opportunity that comes his way in 2018 – including the chance to fight in Ireland Last Man Standing.

When the Belfast middleweight followed up an underrated win over Rhys Pagan by topping a bill in a highly entertaining draw with Conrad Cummings it looked like the unassuming puncher was ready for some boxing glamour.

However, the Mac Man only fought once the following year and his win over Jade Karam on Friday was just his second in 2017.

Meli now seems ready for a big and busy 2018. The MTK fighter claims he will take any opportunity that comes his way in the New Year and is more than open to taking one of the eight slots available on the Assassin and Red Corner Promotions March 3rd Last Man Standing fight night in Dublin.

“Anything that comes my way I want to take it,” Meli said after his victory over Jade Karam at the Devenish Complex on Friday night.

“That is the way it is at the minute. Hopefully I will be out in the New Year if not March then hopefully February. If it’s March then happy days. I heard about Last Man Standing and some people are saying ‘Fredo should go in for it’,” he continued before stressing he feels the competition, which offers €25,000 to the winner, is right up his street.

“I have always like the idea of competition . It suits me get in do the work and then get out and go again. It would suit me down to the ground, but anything would suit me now I’ll take what comes my way.”

‘Fredo’s’ points win on Friday night was his first victory in nine months, but the mechanic claims the engine was still running smoothly and he didn’t suffer due to a period of inactivity.

“It’s nice to be back after a wee while and I am happy enough. I felt alright in there. I thought I would have been worse, but it was alright. I honestly thought I’d be a bit rustier, but I wasn’t.”

“I was happy enough with my performances. I tried a few things out too. You might as well in the early stages and see what ones work.”
