Irish trio on the radar of Mexico-bound Vladimir Belujsky

Cork’s Vladimir Belujsky [3(3)-1(0)-1] returns to Mexico to fight next Saturday night [June 2nd].

‘The Slovak Rebel’ will appear on the undercard of show promoted by Gabriel Quinones on a show that includes a WBC Latino rankings title fight for fellow Assassin Boxing fighter Israel Duffus.

The 22-year-old super middle featured in Tijuana back in January, where he scored a first round knockout of Julio Majors, and will return to the border city next week.

That victory at the start of the year was followed by a first round Last Man Standing defeat to eventual winner Roy Sheehan but the Mitchelstown man bounced back with a quick finish of the durable Iain Jackson in Belfast in April.

Belujsky is also set to feature on ‘The Beginning’ show in The National Stadium, Dublin on July 7th but first must get through his fight at the Bar La Ocina.

By all accounts the puncher who fights out of Cork had hoped for a domestic dust up on the Celtic Clash 6 card – claiming that Kildare’s Chris Mullally had turned down a fight with him.

In a press release, his promoters Assassin explained that “Belujsky wanted a tough test, and strives for the tough challenges, rather than fighting journeymen constantly. Belujsky commented previously that he was targeting fights with the likes of Chris Mullally and Sean McGlinchey, but his hopes seemed to fade.”

“Aside from that, Belujsky hopes to keep busy, and is putting pressure on himself to get to ‘Celtic level’ by the close of the year, and hopes he can challenge a big domestic name in a 50-50 clash before the year is out, in hope of landing silverware, with the likes of Darren Cruise being one of his targets.”

Mullally [2(0)-0] last fought in November, coming through an entertaining war with Manny Bique – who was knocked out in two by Belujsky.

Derry’s McGlinchey [2(0)-0] returns from a year out on the same July 7th National Stadium card as Belujsky following a period on the sidelines with injury and licencing issues.

Roscommon’s Cruise [8(2)-6(0)] is an Assassin stablemate of Belujsky although is now targeting a second shot at the Irish middleweight title.

An opponent for Belujsky’s June 2nd bout is still to be confirmed officially, and it is hoped that a fighter who can bring him rounds will be brought in.
