Irish teen to fight on historic World Title undercard

Top Pro Gif Ad
Norway recently lifted a 35-year ban on professional boxing in the Scandinavian state.

Therefore, on Saturday October 1st, unbeaten superstar Cecilia Brækhus finally gets to fight on home turf in what will be her twenty-ninth contest. Boxing’s only fully-unified champion will defend her WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO welterweight belts against French former foe Anne Sophie Mathis at The Oslo Spektrum.

An historic night, there will amazingly be some Irish interest on ‘The Homecoming’ card.

Not Christina McMahon, not Lynn Harvey, but St Brigid’s Edenderry BC amateur Shannon Edge.

The six-time underage Irish champion has been invited to face Norwegian rising star Madeleine Angelsen in one of four amateur bouts on the undercard of the 10,000-seater sell-out which will be televised live on Norwegian television.

A huge opportunity to impress for the Kildare light welterweight and Tokyo 2020 hopeful, coach Liam Brereton was delighted to accept the offer and has no fear of travelling into the lion’s den.

Keep an eye out for further news in relation to Angelsen v Edge in the coming days.
