It has been announced this afternoon that Antrim duo Sean McComb [2(2)-0] and Steven Donnelly [2(0)-0] will both fight at the Madison Square Garden Arena in New York on Saturday October 27th.
The pair will feature on the undercard of the Danny Jacobs v Sergiy Derervyanchenko vacant IBF middleweight title fight
The news means that the pair will keep up their rapid star to pro life, with both set to have fought four times in ten weeks as both are also due to box on the BoxNation show in Belfast on Friday October 5th.
Ballymena light middleweight Donnelly, who turned 30 last week, has started his pro career with a pair of dominant four-round points wins over journeymen Kevin McCauley and Miguel Aguilar.
The Rio Olympian has spoken of his desire to be fast-tracked and has even called, tongue somewhat in cheek, for a promotional contract with Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn – promoter of the October 27th card in the Big Apple.
McComb has been especially impressive, with the Turf Lodge lightweight scoring eye-catching stoppages of tough Nicaraguans Reynaldo Mora and Lesther Cantillano.
While it is unlikely that they will be part of the televised portion of the Matchroom/HBO card, the level of activity is extremely encouraging.
Opponents for Donnelly and McComb will be confirmed in due time.
First and foremost, both must come through their fights at the Titanic Exhibtiion Centre on October 5th – with opponents also to-be-announced here.
Also featuring on the New York undercard will be a WBA super featherweight title defence from Alberto Machado versus Yuandale Evans and a vacant WBO featherweight title fight between Shelly Vincent and Katie Taylor target Heater Hardy.
