Irish fighters give their ‘Clash of the Titans’ predictions

The biggest Dublin show in many years takes place tomorrow [Saturday March 30th] at the National Stadium.

‘Clash of the Titans’ sees domestic dust-ups galore as the TG4 cameras return to put more pro boxing on terrestrial TV.

Main event sees the returning Eric Donovan [8(4)-0] take on Stephen McAfee [5(2)-0-1] for the vacant Irish featherweight title.

Donovan [Irish-Boxing.com rank #3] is straight into a gruelling fight following an injury-hit 2018 while McAfee [Irish-Boxing.com rank #4] continues his policy of taking risks and big fights.

Chief support sees Victor Rabei [6(2)-0] defend his BUI Celtic light welterweight title in a Dublin derby versus Jake Hanney [5(4)-1(1)].

Ratmichael’s Rabei [Irish-Boxing.com rank #9] is tipped for TV stardom and is the favourite here but is facing a reinvigorated figher in East Wall talent Hanney [Irish-Boxing.com rank #7]

Ahead of the fights, Irish-Boxing.com got in contact with the other featherweights and light welterweights in the division for their views and their predictions can be seen below.

Eric Donovan v Stephen McAfee
vacant Irish featherweight title

I think Eric will stop him via left uppercut to the body.

Eric Donovan will hit and move, Donovan on points! Of Donovan’s still about in two years I’d love that fight, he was one of the best Irish amateur boxers ever.

Victor Rabei v Jake Hanney
BUI Celtic Light Welterweight title

Tyrone McKenna
17(6)-1(0)-1

Hard to call. I think maybe Hanney will be the heavier handed man on the night and the naturally bigger but with Victor being the more active and hHnney not fighting in the last two years and with Victor the more active and with a good work rate… I’m gona edge with Victor on a points win.

Sean McComb

I think Rabei wins on points, it seems Jake Hanney has been inactive.

Working with Victor, sparring with Victor, havinh the same camp as Victor… no word of a lie, this is the truth, Victor is going to stop Hanney in the fourth or fifth round. He’s just too powerful and strong – and I’m strong myself.

It’s hard to pick. I think victor has the advantage cause he is after being very active, Jake will be rusty. Jake is tough and good as well, I’ll go with Jake.
