Irish boxing’s “Worst Kept Secret” set for run of fights

Assassin Boxing believe they have signed the best ‘worst kept secret’ in Irish boxing.

The relatively new to the Irish scene promotional outfit have added Johnny Corcoran [1(1)-0] to a stable that includes the likes of Ray Moylette, Irish champions Paddy and JJ McDonagh, and BUI Celtic champion Victor Rabei among others.

Having just fought once as a pro, a fourth round stoppage win over Mateusz Rybarski back in May of last year, the light heavyweight isn’t known to the casual or even some boxing fans.

However, those in the know are well aware of the Tony Davitt-trained puncher claims Assassin’s Conor Slater.

Slater believes Corcoran, who is the lead character of some very interesting sparring stories, is a huge talent with an equalising punch.

“We are really excited to work with John. He’s possibly Ireland’s best and worst kept secret,” an excited Slatter told Irish-Boxing.com.

“He’s known around all the gyms for being fiercely talented and a huge puncher but he’s only had one pro fight. The plan is to keep him very active and get him out a few times before Christmas.”

The start of a busier run for Corcoran may begin on the ‘Rise Again’ show set for the National Basketball Arena in Dublin and October 6th.

One of the fighters confirmed on that show is Cillian Reardon [2(0)-0] and there is obvious interest surrounding a fighter who is part of the Leinster Rugby coaching set up.

However, the Stillorgan middleweight’s talent and potential have piqued fans’ interest further and Slater stresses that one of the ‘most dedicated’ fighters will be handed the chance to progress up the ladder in the coming months.

“Cillian is a quality addition to what promises to be a great card. He has a big profile in Dublin, and he’s 2-0 as a professional but he must’ve had about five training camps, and then fights have fallen through.”

“O’Rourke has spoken about how much he has progressed over the last year. Hopefully this will be his last four rounder, before moving up to sixes and then titles. He must be one of the most dedicated fighters in the country.”

Also confirmed for the bill are debutant Franzy Luzoho and JJ McDonagh as well as, just announced today, Thomas Finnegan.
