Club Notes starting Monday 30 April
A massive weekend last week for the club as we had 4 girls boxing in the semi-finals of the National Championships. Sarah Quinn was unlucky to come up just short against her Crumlin opponent in a tight decider. Hard luck Sarah! Sarah’s sister Lauren was in next against a girl that she has beaten before from Dunshaughlin. Unfortunately nerves played a part in Lauren losing again by a close margin, hard cheddar Lauren! Taylor Brady was extremely unlucky to lose after the bout was scored even at 10-10 only for Taylor to lose on a countback. Hard luck Taylor from all the gang at Esker ABC..!
Charmaine Reilly left nothing to chance as she powered her way to this Saturdays final after winning both her quarter and semi finals by a 9-3 margin. This girl has already been an Irish champion a few years back when girls boxing wasn’t such a big deal and girls like Charmaine paved the way for over 300 girls to weigh in for these National Championships, a record. No matter what happens on Saturday all of our girls in the club have done themselves, the club and their families proud this season. Gerrup Mna Na Eireann..!
On that note we are encouraging all members of the club to come into The National Stadium on Saturday morning at 10am to watch and Esker ABC’s Charmaine Reilly win the club’s first Irish title. We will have our banner with us but we would encourage any members/supporters that wants to make supporters banners to make them up and create a special occasion on Saturday morning. Anyhow, it promises to be an exciting weekend for the club…! Some big news in the pipeline also..!
Well done to Ev Walker, Adrian Dolan and Peter Mc Cabe who all boxed fantastically well on Palmerstown BC’s inaugural show last Saturday. All of these guys have what it takes to reach the top and are cooking up nicely for the intermediates later in the year..!
Hope to see a big crowd on Friday Night as we have Irish, Leinster and Dublin champions as well as several Irish Internationals all boxing on Friday night right in the heart of Lucan. Bouts WILL start at 7pm sharp so our friends from Wexford and Newry can get home at a reasonable time. ‘The Bank Holiday Bust Up’ starts at 7pm sharp at St Anne’s NS, Esker. Entry is €8 per adult and €4 per under 16!!
P.S. Congratulations to Arthur Griffith Park FC for winning their cup last week, great to see The AGP on the rise again..!

The Lucan BC are inviting your club to take part in their upcoming Multi-Counties tournament.
In 2010, the LBC hosted the inaugural Multi-Counties. Over 30 clubs competed, making it the biggest invitational show ever staged in Ireland.

Karl Brabazon, Lucan BC Secretary, said:
“There has been a lot of coaches asking what categories of boxers can they enter in for the Multi Counties Invitational. There will be Boy 1,2,3,4,Youth 1&2,Junior,Novice,Intermediate and if there are any clubs that would like to add in their Seniors you are very welcome to do so as we will be entering our Seniors.
“Email me your carded boxers you want to enter, their age, the weight they fight at, amount of contest and how many wins and losses (this is for matching purposes or when we do the groups to get the fairest fights).
“We look forward to receiving your entries.”
Tournament details.
Lucan Boxing Club will host the Multi Counties Boxing Invitational on 5th & 6th May 2013 in the Springfield Hotel, Leixlip, Co. Kildare www.springfieldhotel.ie.
This will be a two-day boxing event consisting of two bouts over two days with a semi-final on day 1 and a final on day 2.
After closely examining the details of all boxers, each fighter is matched according to number of fights and results of previous fights to find a suitable opponent(s). In this way we will get to see the best matches.
Using this format there is a risk that a fighter may not to get a bout if there are no matching fighters. This however, is rare and we do our best to match all boxers.
The Irish Multi Counties is held according to the AIBA rules.
Group Partition
Each group consists of max four boxers.
Boxers are matched according to age, weight, number of fights and results.
Each boxer can only box one contest per day.

Cork County Leagues
The Cork County leagues continued in the lakelands in Mahon last Thursday night with some 19 contests down for decision .
Jordan Reynolds (Mayfield ) made it 3 from 3 in as many weeks with a tight majority decision over Johnaton O’Driscoll (fr horgans) at boy 1 29 kilo .
Thomas Cronin (Riverstown) gave away a year to Owen Mc Donagh (Lughmahon) in what was a big step up in class for the riverstown ace and he duly performed to take a tight maj decision at boy 2 32 kilo .
One of thge contests of the night was the yth 2 60 kilo clash between Jack Phelan (Glen) and Kerry’s Maurice Falvey (Cashenvale) . This was a very exciting contest which had everything .
They went at it from the bell and what followed was three hard rounds of boxing, in which both boxers traded some big shots . There were two standing counts after Phelan caught his man with some feroucious straight rights , but Falvey has plenty of guts and wasnt detered from pushing his foe all the way .
In the end of the contest referee Derek Turner raised the Glen mans hand to a round of applause from the large attendance .
Patrick Dunne (Riverstown) was having his first outing of the year at boy 2 50 kilo where he took on Kelvin Hickey (St Colmans) . Dunne brought the fight to Hickey forcing the pace from the off in what was a close affair with the riverstown boxer just shading it on a maj decision . Jamie O Driscoll (fr horgans) is a rising star in boxing , he has only 3 contests under his belt but is showing some great skills that are beyond his inexperience , he took on Arthur Mc Donagh (St Johns) at boy 3 36 kilo . O ‘Driscoll was by far the craftier of the 2 and duly scored with some clean lefts and rights to take the decision on a un decision . Timmy Mc Donagh (St Johns) got back to winning ways when he took on Killian Murphy (Spartan ) at boy 3 46 kilo .
Mc Donagh showed his experience and the decision was never in doubt with the decision going to the St Johns man un decision .
The Cork leagues take place in the lakelands Mahon every thursday evening at 7.30 . The Cork Development Squad will be traveling to dublin next sun 3rd feb to take on the Irish High performance team in the national stadium . The following week they will be traveling to Galway to box the Galway team in a very busy few weeks for the cork team

Esker ABC
What a few weeks for Esker ABC! Last Saturday we had over 25 of our boxers take on the might of Crumlin Boxing Club at their club on Windmill Road, Crumlin. Standout bouts on the day were Evan Fitzgerald who produced another fine performance to continue his recent heroics in the ring. Sarah Quinn, Taylor Brady and Charmaine Reily all kept the female pugilism flag flying high as they all continued to hone their skills in all action competitive bouts. Good stuff girls! Making his debut on the day was Daniel Gibbons who displayed a lot of heart in a fine display. Sean O Connell and brother Ryan again boxed well on what is becoming a busy year for both boys. Chris Roman also boxed well in his bout. Warren Keating produced the performance of his short boxing career that will stand to him well in the future. Dylan Reilly lost but boxed well in his tussle, well done Dylan. Sean Kelly was in and he is coming along nicely, he certainly doesn’t lack bottle for sure!
Liam O Connel stepped in next for a right banger of a contest and Liam has the determination to do great things in ‘The Sweet Science’. 9 year olds Luke ‘The Bomber Beakhurst’ and Kevin ‘The Colthurst Cannonball’ fought great battles against their Crumlin BC opponents, good shootin’chaps! 12 year old Andrew O Brien is one tough cookie and this man would walk through walls to land his fabled left hook, super stuff Andy! New York bound Finan Callaghan was bloodied at the end of his fight but not unbowed after a fine display, good man Finan. 9 year old Ryan Squire-Fitzpatrick shone in his under 10 scrap and both lads were in bits at the end but with a shiny medal around their Gregory Pecks! The big boys stepped in next and Evan Walker is a schoolteacher with a lot to teach as he gave a boxing lesson to his opponent! Peter Mc Cabe boxed brilliantly in his bout and is cruising along nicely at the moment. Top prospect Ado Dolan bounced back from his national quarter-final defeat a week past to register a commanding performance in his tussle. Aaron Mc Grane stepped in next to face one of Crumlins top boxers Martin Wall. Over 3 x 3 minutes both lads gave it their all and had the crowd on their feet at the end. Well done chaps! Scott Brady produced the outstanding performance of the night as he boxed his first opponent in a foreign ring. Scott boxed brilliantly and was a deserved Esker ABC boxer of the night. Superb corner work on the night from Martin O Connell, Mick Kelly, Gerry Squire and Joe Farrell, great stuff chaps!
Next up for Esker ABC is a historic match up against The Irish Air Corps in Baldonnell Aerodrome this Friday 25th January. Over 10 bouts featuring our Senior boxers will take place on the night. Esker BC
Esker ABC LUCAN Well they say that there are two things in life that are guaranteed, death and taxes..You can go ahead and add another one, Esker ABC is one of the busiest boxing clubs in the country..! On Friday 16th November we welcomed St Seachnalls BC (Dunshaughlin), The Borough BC (Ballybrack), Cherry Orchard BC, Westside BC and Kilnamanagh BC to Lucan for an Interclub show featuring our best junior and female boxers.
8 Esker ABC girls took to the canvas and gave real meaning to the term ‘Girl Power’!. First into the ring making her debut was Lauren Quinn. Lauren is one tough cookie and she matched Amy Mulvaney shot for shot in a great contest. Lauren’s sister Sarah, the 2nd of the SuperQuinns stepped through the ropes to face her club mate Taylor ‘ You said it sister’ Brady in an exhibition that proved both of these girls can do the business, good shootin’ girdles..!
‘The Blond Bomber’ Alanna Riordan was in next against a former opponent Jordane Jones of Kilnamanagh in a thrilling encounter that had some of the 100 strong crowd choking on their Coke! Well done cailin’s! Martha ‘The Smiling Assassin’ Buckley made a very impressive debut and she has big things ahead of her in boxing, great stuff Martha!
‘The Foxborough Flash’ Winnie Maughan and her St Seachnalls opponent, Shannon Stokes are both going to win Irish tiles, it’s only a matter of time. These are two terrific girls and they also fought an excellent contest. Emma ‘Flash’ Flood and Amy Mc Geady of Westside BC boxed next in a battle that not many men would survive.
Two girls you DON’T wanna bump into, super stuff from both boxers. Having scoured the country for an female opponent for Charmaine Reilly we couldn’t find one so Charmaine Reilly fought an exhibition against the current Leinster Champ Brian Stokes. Both of these boxers have between them won Leinster, Irish and Representative honours and their skills were appreciated and applauded by all present. All of these girls are a credit to their families and themselves.
They have added an extra positive dimension to Esker ABC and are sure to do big things in both inside boxing and outside of it…Here comes the girls…! 11 year old Kelan Costello was a man in a hurry and him and Ned Cash fought a right ding dong of an exhibition, well done chaps! One young man destined for the top is Liam O Connell. This skilled boxer has impressed all with his rapid progress and is doing great things at the moment. Also making his debut on the night was Rob ‘Hands of Stone’ Cherubini who boxed Tommy Stokes from St Seahnalls. Great boxing from both boys! The fighting O Connells, Sean and Ryan are boxing great at present and both of these young men done their family proud, fantastic stuff lads..! ‘Big’ Scotty Brady and ‘Mean’ Dean Keating boxed a great bout and are 2 very promising pugilists. 8 year old Kevin ‘ The Colthurst Cannonball’ Reilly is boxing like Rocky lately, he doesn’t listen to his trainers, wants to knock everyone out and has a goldfish called ADRIANNE..Good man Kev! Warren ‘ It is what it is’ Keating is another young chap with a bright future in the fight game ahead of him. Warren boxed a great bout against Ryan Yomans from Cherry Orchard, well done lads! Richie Flynn a for some reason is always nearly top of the bill and after his exhibition we now know why..This kid is dynamite! Good stuff Richie. Andrew ‘The End of The Line’ O Brien was second last in and this pocket rocket is firing on all cylinders at present. Good stuff Andy! Top of the bill was 9 year old Ryan Squire who was magnificent in the ring but will have to learn not to talk back to the referee! Well done Ryan!
A big mention to the best home boxer Sean Kelly and best away boxer from Cherry Orchard BC, Johnny Cash. These two chaps have astounded all of their coaches with the improvement in their skills and they fought a great contest against each other, well done lads! Best females were Taylor Brady and Sarah’ Boom Boom’ Quinn. Great performances girls and well deserved!
A massive thank you to Irish boxing legend Jim Rock who presented trophies on the night and also brought his Irish and IBC world middleweight belts down for photos with everyone. A true legend, thanks Jim! Well done to Martin, Daithi, Derek and Mick who done a great job manning the Esker corners. Big thanks to Craig Carabini and Kelly Fitzgerald who as always done fantastic work on the night as did Annette on the shop.
Evan Fitzgerald has a great career ahead of him as a photographer if he ever decides to..! Great stuff and thanks to everyone for supporting us on the night and to Padraig Carney and Kevin Gannon for their consistent support of the club.
Well as always Saturday follows Friday and another day on the road for Esker ABC. James mc Cabe, Peter Mc Cabe, Finan Callaghan, Alanna Riordan, Ryan and Sean O Connell, Evan Fitzgerald, Craig Carabini and Warren Keating travelled with Derek and Martin to face our friends from St Margarets BC in Tralee.
Sean, Morris, Graham and the rest of the gang treated Esker ABC like royalty and we’ll see them in Barnhall RFC for the return in late January. Craig Carabini boxed superbly in his bout and has great skills that will only improve as he boxes more. Great stuff Craig! James Mc Cabe had a superb contest against Conor Fallon of Sacred Heart Killinarden who had also made the trip down south! Evan Fitzgerald is busier these days than Mr Busy who live on Busy Street! Ev produced yet another great performance to pick up a trophy that will surely bring down his mam’s mantelpiece!
The fighting O Connells have gloves and will travel as they also picked up trophies for their respective efforts. Well done boys! Alann Riordan was in like a bolt of lightning and out just as quick as she added to impressive medal collection. Warren Keating boxed a superb contest against his opponent and he always wears what all boxers should wear…A Smile! Good man Warren!
Peters man didn’t show so he done a great job helping out on the corners with James. Great stuff chaps! Last but by no means least was Finan Callaghan. Finan’s dad Carl was a super boxer with Lucan BC back in the 80’s and it looks like the boy has inherited something as he won his first ever bout. Gerrup the Callaghan! Well done to Martin and Derek for having a weekend away, getting out for a few pints, getting a break from the wives….Hard work indeed…!
A massive thanks to Sean, Morris and all at St Margarets as well as Graham from Trojan BC. It was a pleasure to be on the trip with Sacred Heart BC..Great lads! Good luck to Charmaine reikly who boxes in the final of the Leinsters on Monday 19th November as well as Peter Tully, Aaron McGrane and Peter Mc Cabe who weigh in for the National Intermediates this Friday. Our senior show is on in Barnhall RFC this Friday with Irish boxing legends Jim Rock and Oisin Fagan in attendance. Boxing starts at 7.30pm €10 adults €5 under 16’s

Clonard ABC
Esker ABCClub Notes
What a weekend for Esker ABC..! We had boxers in action on both sides of the county at Baldoyle BC and Golden Cobra BC. Coaches Martin and Mick travelled to The Racecourse Inn in Baldoyle to man the corners for some of Esker ABC’s finest. 8 yo Kevin Reilly, 11 yo
Andrew O Brien and Charmaine Reilly all performed brilliantly in their respective exhibition matches. Well done lads! Alanna Riordan ‘The Blond Bomber’ was very unlucky to lose on the night as the seaside sand must have been in the ringside judges eyes! Great stuff Bomber! Ev Walker proved what a talent he is in his match. Ev narrowly lost but showed that he has big things ahead in this years National Novices. Last and by no means least into the ring was Aaron ‘Slim Shady’ McGrane who proved just who is back as he scored a second round KO of his game opponent. Great stuff Aaron! A big thanks to Christy, Gabriel and all at Baldoyle BC for the invite.
Over in St Annes GAA club in Tallaght meanwhile 3 Esker ABC pugilists showed that they have what it takes to do really well this year in competition. With Derek and Ed in the corner the lads were ready for action. Dylan Reilly produced a career best performance to edge out Luke Donnan in an absorbing contest that would grace any Irish final. Well done lads..! Ado ‘What you talkin’ bout Willis’ Dolan also claimed victory in a right ding dong of a battle with Ken Maloney of Golden Cobra. Both boxers gave it their all and had the crowd on their feet at the end of a great battle…! Great shooting chaps!
The last bout of the night featured one of Dublin’s finest from a few years ago Mark Dillon, taking on Peter Mc Cabe from Esker ABC. Over 3×3 min rounds, both of these warriors showed all present what it takes to make it in boxing. At the end of three exhausting rounds of this exhibition the two of these boxers received best home and away boxer accolades. Mark Dillon is a credit to boxing as is Paddy and all the lads at Golden Cobra. Thanks Lads!
Kelan Costello, Richie Flynn and Ryan O Connell all travelled down to Enniscorthy to box in the Wexford Leagues on Saturday 9th November. Ryan and Richie boxed great exhibitions when their correct boxers did not show, well done lads! Kelan Costello stepped into the ring for his first ever competitive bout. Kelan has all the skills to do well and although he lost, he showed enough heart, courage and determination to prove to his coaches Derek and Martin that he’ll do well in his next bouts. Good man Kelan!
Evan Fitzgerald was very unlucky to lose his Leinster semi-final last Saturday in the stadium. Evan is boxing great at the moment and he is building up the necessary experience to win titles in the future, well done Ev!
We have a juniors/Females show on in St Annes National School, Esker on Friday 16th November starting at 7pm sharp. €2 entry to see over 20 of our best boxers in action, sure ye wouldn’t get that value in LIDL!
Good luck to 8 of our boxers who travel to Tralee this Saturday 17th November to take on some of Kerry’s finest boxers! Gerrup the lads..!
Don’t forget our senior show is on in Barnhall Rugby Club next Friday 23rd November starting at 7.30pm. €10 adults-€5 under 16’s. Irish boxing legends Jim Rock and Oisin Fagan will be on hand to present trophies. Come on up and support your local boxing club..!

Esker ABC
The last few weeks have been very busy for the club. Aaron Mc Grane and Peter Tully boxed last weekend in the National under 23’s and although they lost their bouts they displayed enough talent in their respective contests to suggest that national success is not very far away. Well done lads..!
Mick Doogan had a very good win in the Dublin novices in his quarter final but unfortunately was unlucky to lose in his semi-final. Hard luck Mick. Also unlucky to lose in his semi-final was Ado Dolan who sustained a cut over his eye and the referee had no choice but to stop the bout, hard luck Ado.
Evan Walker was on top form as he powered his way in to his final by blasting his semi-final opponent out of it as he forced his opponent to retire after the 2nd round. The final beckoned on Wednesday night and Evan did not disappoint as he stopped his foe in the 3rd to claim the Dublin Novice title and won Esker ABC’s first ever competitive medal. Great stuff Evan!
Good luck to Evan Fitzgerald and Chris Roman who travel to Docklands boxing club this Sunday 28th October. Aaron mc Grane and Peter Mc Cabe box next Friday in Mulhuddart BC, all the best chaps!
Esker ABC will be hosting our next senior show in Barnhall Rugby Club on Friday 23rd November 2012. The show starts at 7pm sharp and all of Esker’s senior boxers will be in action. Esker Amateur Boxing Club
Edenderry, The Curragh, Smithfield and Cherry Orchard Boxing Clubs all travelled to Esker ABC last Friday 12th October for an interclub show featuring our Junior, Underage and Female boxers. A big crowd showed up at St Anne
’s National School to show their support for these young athletes. First into the ring was Esker’s Emma Flood who faced Edenderry’s Julie Lawless. Both girls were making their debuts and showed that they have the skills to go a long way in amateur boxing. Scott Brady and Evan Fitzgerald showcased their skills in the next bout, good stuff chaps! Taylor Brady and The Curraghs Saoirse Cole went at it hammer and tongs and both girls deserve great credit for such a great display. Sarah Quinn and Edenderry’s Maeve Brearrton both also boxed very well, well done girls! John Zaib and Luke Berghurst also performed well against their Curragh and Smithfield opponents. Winnie Maughan boxed superbly in her exhibition and ‘The Foxborough Flash’ is certainly going places fast..!
Keelan Costello and Ryan Squire produced outstanding performances in their respective exhibitions and are ones to watch out for. Good hookin’ lads! Michael Mc Clean stepped in next and this 10 year old faced the ominous sounding Rocky Power form Cherry Orchard. Mickey and Rocky landed punches to each other at a height that in the grown up world would’ve been kneecappers. Great stuff boys..! Andy O Brien stepped between the rope for the second time in just over a week as he faced Liam Murphy , a hot prospect for the Dublin Leagues from Cherry Orchard BC. Both lads had the crowd rockin’ as they served up a delectable dish of boxing delicacies!! Great stuff chaps! The two Sean’s, O Connell and Kelly, both performed fantastically well in their respective exhibitions and are sure to do well in competition this year. Richie ‘The Hitman Flynn practically bounded into the ring as he launched straight into a full on assault that reminded everyone ringside of a young Mike Tyson. Great stuff hitman! ‘The Rochfort Right Hook’ Kevin Reilly was in a hurry to see Ireland get humiliated 6-1 by Germany as he done everything in his power to finish it early. But his opponent Kain Doyle from Cherry Orchard BC didn’t let him have it that easy as both boxers produced a thrilling exhibition to finish the night on a high. Gerrup Esker ABC..! a big thanks to all the clubs for travelling over, cheers chaps..!
Emma Flood form Esker won the best home boxer for her fantastic performance. Liam Murphy from Cherry Orchard BC picked up the best away award and he no doubt will have made his Mam and Dad very happy. Well done Liam and Emma.! Fantastic cornerwork by Daithi, Derek, Martin and Mick on the night. A big thank you to Craig Carabini and Kelly Fitzgerald who as always done DJ and MC and are a massive part of Esker ABC. Another man who is integral to Esker ABC is Gerry Squire who is the backbone of the club with his organisational skills. Thanks also to Annette on the night for all her help. Hard luck to Evan Fitzgerald and Dylan Reilly who were unlucky to lose in the Dublin Leagues on last Monday night. Keep the chin up for the next one lads..! Good luck to Aaron Mc Grane, Peter Mc Cabe and Peter Tully who all box in the National under 22’s this weekend and also to Mick Doogan, Evan Walker and Adrian Dolan who compete in the Dublin novices next week. Tyson Fury visits Esker BC fight night
Esker ABC welcomed Sacre Coure Enniscorthy, Sacred Heart Omagh, Angels Dublin, Ryston Newbridge, Camlough Armagh, Clonoe Tyrone, Arklow Wicklow and Cherry Orchard Dublin, Boxing Clubs to Barnhall Rugby Club in Leixlip. With WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury making the trip over from Manchester to present trophies, a special night lay in store and the action did not disappoint. Boxing on exhibitions for Esker were Sean Kelly, Warren Keating, Kevin Reilly, Michael Mc Clean, Connor and Nathan Horrigan, Ritchie Flynn, Keelan Costelloe and Ryan Squire. All of these young boxers did themselves and their families proud as they showcased their growing skills to the capacity crowd.
Next up was 3 Esker girls who hope to follow in Katie Taylor’s recent heroics at the London Olympics. First up was 12 year old Winnie ‘The Foxborough Flash’ Maughan. ‘The Flash’ moved around the ring like a seasoned 13 year old, dazzling her opponents with quick fire combinations. Good woman Winnie! Next to step between the ropes was 12 yo Alanna ‘The Blond Bomber’ Riordan. ‘Bomber’ took the fight to her more experienced foe and had Barnhall Palace rocking. Gerrup Alanna! Recent All Ireland champ, Charmaine ‘Lights out’ Reilly was the last of the 3 ladies onto the canvas and she wasted no time getting started against her Ryston Irish Champion, Shannon Edge. Great boxing from both girls followed and the future is looking bright for female boxing in Lucan.
The capacity crowd, at this stage full to the brim with Ed Griffin’s lovingly crafted corned beef sandwiches, were ready for the decision bouts! Martin O Connell, Derek Riordan and Daithi Mc Cabe manned the Esker Corners fantastically during the night and the first bout up was Mark Bolger who put on a fantastic display. Good man Marko! One of the top boxers in Esker, Dylan Reilly, produced a fantastic display against the current Irish Champion from Sacred Heart. Reilly was unlucky to lose in a hard fought bout. Next up was Evan Fitzgerald who produced the performance of his career to stop his opponent within 1 round. Evan displayed for perhaps the first time, the killer instinct to finish off boxers. Well done to Evan who also picked up the best junior boxer of the night for his heroics.
Big Robbie Flynn was in next and Robbie, whilst on the wrong end of the decision, has been one of the success stories of Esker ABC since its inception. Robbie takes every bout and gives it his all and his performances are starting to shine through. Super stuff Rob! 23 yo Adrian Dolan stepped in next and John Tyrell from Sacre Coure was in the blue corner. The next three rounds was end to end, rope to rope, fist to chin action that had the admittedly inebriated crowd rocking doors of their hinges! A fantastic contest that seen Ado Dolan pick up best senior home boxer. 12 yo Ryan O Connell was unlucky not to pick up best home junior as he, like Fitzgerald, stopped his opponent within the 1st round. Ryan is coming to the boil nicely for the Dublin Leagues and all at the club are expecting good things from him.
Dean Keating stepped in next and showed all present what a courageous 14 yo he is as he matched his vastly more experienced opponent. Good man Deano! The ladies in the audience, already woozy from the bar, nearly knocked out communications at nearby Weston Airport with their high pitched shrieking as local ladies favourite and one of Esker ABC’s most dedicated members, Steven Curtis, stepped in to the spotlights. Steven who had lost to his opponent from Sacred Heart just over a month ago proceeded to set the record straight. The two lads went at it hammer and tong and at the end the crowd rose to their feet to acknowledge two great warriors. Great stuff chaps!
The last two bouts of the evening were between Tyson Fury’s two brothers against two of the top boxers in Ireland, Darragh Keelan of Arklow and Jack Morrissey of Sacre Coure. Two great bouts ensued and the night ended on a high as all coaches and boxers gathered in the ring to celebrate a fantastic night of pugilism. Well done also to Ryan Cleary and Jordan Chambers of Sacred Heart BC who won best away senior and junior boxers respectively. The night ended on a historic note as Derek Riordan of Esker ABC was rumoured to have bought his round of drinks!
A big thanks to all the clubs, officials, Esker ABC President Eddie Butler, Tyson Fury, Mick Hennessey, Barnhall Rugby Club, Pat Toolan of Toolan Bookmakers for sponsoring Trophies, Lucan Computers, Liffey Sound FM, Philip Hollowed, Philip Rooney, Marty O Neill, John Connolly, Fresh and Fruity, Tony Carey of Careys Newsagents, Paddy Monaghan, Kelly Fitzgerald, Trish Monaghan, James Mc Cabe and Anne Griffin along with everyone else who helped out on the night. Big thanks to William Lavelle who presented the club with a grant for €1500.00 on the night. A special mention must go to Esker ABC’s Peter Tully, Craig Carabini and Gerry Squire. Without these three men the night could not have went as well. And finally, a big shout out to all of the supporters on the night. Thank you from all at Esker ABC and we’ll see ye’s all at the next show!
