Irish-Boxing.com speak to upcoming Katie Taylor unification foe Victoria Noelia Bustos

Victoria Noelia Bustos claims she is just getting to know Katie Taylor and, from what she has seen so far, the only thing she is sure of is that New York is in for an entertaining fight come April 28th.

The IBF lightweight champion is hoping to unify titles when she meets the Irish legend and WBA titlist at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn on the Danny Jacobs-Maciej Sulecki undercard.

Despite the fact the experienced ‘Lioness’ has held her title since 2013 and Taylor [8(4)-0] looks to unify in just her ninth fight, the Bray star is deemed a heavy, heavy favourite to win the battle of champions.

Indeed, such was Taylor’s talent and reputation that she has been tipped not only to win every lightweight world title, but to take the sport by storm.

However, it seems the experienced Argentine hasn’t read the script and went as far as to say she is unaware of Taylor’s game-changing amateur career.

In fact, Bustos [18(0)-4(0)] she says she is still only learning about possibly the greatest female amateur of all time.

“I really didn’t know much about Katie’s career. I found out about her when she fought with my compatriot Anahí Sánchez, but until then I didn’t know of her. I did not know her as an amateur,” the South America 29-year-old told Irish-Boxing.com.

Since Taylor started to blip on the long-reigning champion’s radar, Bustos has begun to do her homework – and her studies have taught her that an entertaining fight awaits.

“I have seen that she is a very neat boxer. We have a similar boxing style and what I like is that I’m sure we’re going to have a very good fight. I predict it will be a tough fight for both of us.”

“The little I have seen of her shows a brave boxer. She stands there in front of her opponents so  I hope it’s a clean and very good fight that will delight all the spectators.”

Bustos is a veteran of eight World title fights, compared to Taylor’s two, but she wasn’t keen to point to said experience as an advantage.

“Surely my experience, the amount of fights I have had and the amount of fights I have had with other champions, helps me. But there is a part of me that doesn’t trust that experience.”

“You never know what can happen in a fight, so you have to prepare to give your best at all times,” she added before expressing her delight at fighting outside of Argentina for the first time.

“I am very happy to go and fight in America. I am excited too. It’s a great opportunity for me to be seen and to show people my boxing skills.”
