Irish boxers receive new fight dates following Citywest cancellation

Irish boxing was hit yesterday evening with the cancellation of the SK Promotions ‘Collision Course’ show. The card was due to take place at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin tonight, but was scrapped by the Saggart venue.

Seven boxers lost out on fight dates, and SK Promotions have stated their intention to seek compensation after what they allege is a breach of contract.

Encouragingly, four of the fighters from the cancelled bill have secured new dates within 24 hours. Lightweight Gary Cully, middleweight Luke Keeler, light welterweight Sean Creagh, and super featherweight Davey Oliver Joyce will all now box next Saturday night in Belfast on the Ginley Promotions ‘Danger at The Devenish 3’ bill on the Finaghy Road.

The quartet join Declan Geraghty, Ger Healy, Padraig McCrory, Anto Upton, Sean Magee, and headliner Conrad Cummings on the bill.

For Cully it is a return to the venue he debuted at in September – on a bill which also included Joyce. Creagh will be returning to Belfast for his first fight since his high-profile clash with Tyrone McKenna, and – most interestingly – Keeler will now be sharing a card with Cummings before sharing the ring with him on the Frampton-Donaire undercard at the SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday April 21st.

The other three fighters who were due to box in Dublin tonight are Stephen Carroll, Liam Gaynor, and debutant Eoin McGrath. It is hoped that the trio also secure new slots in the near future.
