Irish boxers claim wins in London

There were early wins tonight for Irish boxers as 2018 continues to wind down.

Caoimhin Agyarko and John Joe Nevin both claimed scorecards wins in London.

Fighting for the second time as a pro, Belfast middleweight Agyarko dropped Hungarian-based Iranian Yasin Hassani twice en-route to a six-round points win at the Brentwood Centre.

‘Black Thunder’ only debuted in October and the Frank Warren prospect got another solid six rounds in ahead of what looks set to be a big 2019.

Across the city at the famous York Hall in Bethnal Green, Olympic silver medallist Nevin [11(4)-0] racked up another win.

The Mullingar super feather had claimed a good name in Alex Torres Rynn last time out in March but saw a fight in June fall through and halt his momentum.

Looking to set up a big 2019, Nevin scored a comfortable eight-round points win over Nicaraguan journeyman Reynaldo Cajina.

Waterford welter Rohan Daté [6(5)-0-1] had been due to appear on the same British Warriors bill in a six-rounder versus tough Bulgarian Angel Emilov but was forced to pull out through illness.

Later tonight, Wicklow lightweight Katie Taylor [11(5)-0] defends her WBA and IBF titles at Madison Square Garden versus Finland’s WBC super featherweight champ Eva Wahlstrom [22(3)-0-1].

Also across the Atlantic, following a debut knockout win last month, Limerick welter Lee Reeves is back in the ring in Canada and faces Maged Hammo [1(0)-2(1)] in a four-rounder at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto.
