There were eight Irish winners of the weekend at Europe’s largest boxing tournament – the Haringey Box Cup.

The tournament at the Alexandra Palace is now in its tenth year and 76 titles were on offer.

Ireland was represented in London by teams from Munster, Limerick, the Irish Third-Level Boxing Association, Oughterard, St Michael’s New Ross, St Michael’s Inchicore, St Anthony’s/St Patrick’s, Trojan, Thurles, and DCU.

Recent Irish runner-up and reigning Intermediate champ Thomas McCarthy won the Men’s flyweight crown, and Oughterard’s Kieran Molloy won a welterweight title.

European bronze medalist Christina Desmond won the women’s middleweight title via knockout. Now representing the Army Boxing Team, Belfast’s Alanna Nihell won the 64kg title, her third successive win.

Eamer Coughlan (pictured) of Riverstown won the Youth 60kg title via stoppage, winning the best overall youth boxer in the process. The Cork boxer defeated Kerryman Cillian Spillane of Trojan BC in an all-Irish final.

Coughlan’s Irish team mate and fellow World Junior silver medalist Paddy Donovan took home top prize in the 64kg Youths. Donovan had stopped English champion Ben Vaughan in the previous round.

Kellie McLoughlin won the Female B bantamweight title, while Intermediate champion Tommy Casey won the male equivalent.
