Ireland’s Last Man Standing – Quarter-Final match-ups CONFIRMED

The eight have weighed in and the selections have been made, Ireland’s Last Man Standing is ready to go.

The single-elimination Prizefighter-style tournament takes place tomorrow night [Saturday March 3rd] at the National Stadium in Dublin, live on TG4, and the official weigh-in took place at the same venue this afternoon.

All eight fighters* came within the 165lbs weight for the middleweight tournament and must weigh in at under 175lbs at 10:00am tomorrow morning.

The real drama came in the selection of quarter-final opponents.

Four of the fighters were announced as seeds yesterday and, following the weigh-in, they got to choose their opening round opponent from the unseeded four.

First up was number one seed and Irish super middleweight champion JJ McDonagh [15(7)-3(1)] who picked Ger Healy [7(0)-4(1)-1]

Second seed Chris Blaney [9(3)-0] then chose, as he had hinted at yesterday, Owen Jobburn [4(1)-0-1].

Number three seed Roy Sheahan [1(0)-0], who admitted to not knowing most of the other competitors, went for Vladimir Belujsky [2(2)-0-1].

Finally it came to fourth seed Jack Cullen [9(3)-0] who was left with Nick Quigley [15(3)-3(2)].

The winners of McDonagh v Healy and Sheahan v Belujsky will face off in the first semi-final, with the victors from Blaney v Jobburn and Cullen v Quigley fighting in the corresponding semi.

On the undercard, both Craig O’Brien (153.9lbs) and Jay Byrne (153.8lbs) successfully made weight for their Irish light middleweight title fight.

This fight will take place in between the conclusion of the Last Man Standing quarters and the commencement of the semi-finals.
