Ireland’s Last Man Standing – 8 Irish boxers fight for €20,000 Top Prize

After plenty of speculation, it has been officially confirmed tonight that a massive Prizefighter-style tournament will take place at the National Stadium in Dublin next year.

At an official launch press conference tonight at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, promoters Red Corner and Assassin announced that ‘Ireland’s Last Man Standing‘ will take place at the National Stadium on Saturday March 3rd.

An eight-man, single-elimination, knockout tournament, it is very much in the style of the defunct Prizefighter series shown on Sky Sports during the early days of Eddie Hearn’s reign with Matchroom Boxing.

All fights will take place over three three-minute rounds, with the quarter final draw being made during fight week. Should a fight end in a draw, a deciding vote will be cast by the referee.

This inaugural edition of ‘Ireland’s Last Man Standing’ will feature middleweights (officially fighters between the weights of 155lbs and 165lbs) and is open to fighters from Ireland or of Irish descent – with the eight boxers will be vying for a top prize of €20,000.

In addition there will be a knockout bonus of €1,000, as well as staggered purses for runners-up (€5,000), semi finalists (€2,000), and quarter finalists (€1,000).

The show is planned to be the first of three in 2017.

Currently there are no boxers officially announced – however numerous fighters have expressed an interest privately, while Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Sean McGlinchey has publicly called for his inclusion.

In what is massive news for boxing in Dublin, the show looks set to be broadcast on Irish terrestrial television, with a network to be confirmed shortly.

The final will be the first professional fight shown on an Irish terrestrial television channel since Henry Coyle way back in August 2011.

Fighters will be announced in the near future, and the promoters of the event have stressed that slots still remain and encouraged fighters to get in contact with Conor Slater of Assassin (conor.slater@assassinboxing.com)

Ticket details for Ireland’s Last Man Standing will be released shortly
