Ireland name squad for World Youth Championships and Youth Olympic qualifier

Ireland will send an eight-strong squad to the AIBA World Youth Women’s Championships in India.

The squad is the same team that fought at the European Youth Championships in Bulgaria in July where Caitlin Fryers won silver and Lauren Kelly took bronze.

The Championships begin in Guwahati on November 19th.

The tournament next month acts as a qualifier for the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and places will be up for grabs in the fly, feather, light and middle classes in India.

Shauna Blaney, Labhaoise Clark, Marguerita Nevin, and Kelly are all in the running for Youth Olympic qualification, but need to win gold in Guwahati. Should three or more of these four fighters win gold, the IABA will need to choose two to send to Argentina next year.
