Irate Paddy Gallagher calls for Board to crown him British and Commonwealth Champ

Paddy Gallagher has demanded the British Boxing Board of Control  overturn his latest loss and crown him British and Commonwealth welterweight champion.

The Belfast fighter is still fuming after his controversial technical decision defeat to Chris Jenkins on the massive Top Rank card at Féile an Phobail last Saturday.

‘The Pat Man’ has argued against previous results – and  fear of a bad decision is why he demanded his next big fight be in Belfast – but wasn’t long about returning to his jovial self.

However, he is adamant he won’t let this one slide. The 30-year-old, who believes the fight should have been stopped on cuts in his favour, claims the injustice is too big and the stakes to high for him to accept what he labels a ‘robbery’.

“With the magnitude of this fight, the night, the titles, the status, the potential progress, and the matter of the robbery it’s one I’m not letting go and I’ll keep on it until it’s sorted and I get what’s right,” a defiant Gallagher told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I want it sorted as soon as possible because I don’t want it going on and on where people get fed up of seeing it. I’ve just put my foot down because fuck sitting back and letting that roll on and I’m left in the dirt.”

Irish-Boxing.com can confirm that MTK have lodged an appeal with the BBBofC with regard to the fight and the result claiming that the cut that brought an end to the fight was caused by a punch not a clash of heads as ruled by referee Howard Foster.

Gallagher believes the Board should reverse the decision, but admits he doesn’t expect that unprecedented reversal to be made.

“What should happen is that I get rightly declared British and Commonwealth champion and the result changed to a TKO win for me,” he adds before exploring plan B.

“The chances of that happening are next to none. So at the very worst case scenario what about him keeping the British title. I’m now over that – it’s a fucking curse for me. Then he vacates the Commonwealth title and I fight the mandatory challenger for it.”

In the immediate aftermath of the fight, Gallagher was arguing against the fact all three judges scored the clash 96-95 in the Welsh fighter’s favour.

The BUI and BBBofC Celtic title winner didn’t mention anything with regards to the cut and whether or not it was caused by a clash of heads or punch.

When pushed on that point, the fighter claims he trusted the referee’s judgement at the time.

However, upon review he claims it was obvious a punch opened the cut over the left eye, which was the cut that saw the fight stopped prematurely in round 9.

“At the time I thought it was heads because the ref told me it was. There was a lot going on and obviously you should trust the ref. If I knew it was a punch at the time I would have went mental and wouldn’t have left the ring until things were put right,” he comments before claiming he still felt he should have got the result on points.”

“I wasn’t keeping scores but I had him down one round and definitely won a further the so I was baffled and raging.  At the time I was raging because I thought I should have got it on points but then to find out it was actually supposed to be a TKO win it’s I don’t know how many times worse.”

“I was 100% robbed, I’ve had bad decisions against me before, my last three losses are all controversial as fuck so it’s really shit.”
